In the case of Cumberland County, many people look at the way we treat our children. In recent years, the community has had a high-rate of child abuse. That���s something that local citizens and community leaders take very seriously. The community is lucky to have one organizations whose whole focus and mission is supporting and protecting these innocent victims. The Child Advocacy Center���s purpose Thank You For Voting Us Best Southern Style Restaurant for 6 Years! is ���to alleviate the trauma children experience once a disclosure of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse occurs by creating a community of collaborating advocates.��� Its vision is to create ���a community where children live in a safe and nurturing environment free from sexual and physical abuse.��� And its mission is to ���join hands with community partners, to provide a safe and child-friendly center that supports the prevention, investigation and prosecution of child abuse.��� To that end, the center works with 19 community agencies, and provides a safe and child-friendly place to interview, investigate and provide support for abused children. The center also provides prevention education for parents, professionals and agencies in our community. During FY 2011, the center served 595 children and their families and, by our coordinating efforts, saved the community more than $500,000. At Fayetteville Urban Ministry, the focus is on transforming lives through faith, hope, love and security. They do that through a number of programs like Find-A-Friend, Adult Literacy, Emergency Assistance and the Nehemiah Project, which provides free home repairs to low-income homeowners. All of these programs take a lot of ���nancial support; two years ago, the board brought together a group of dedicated volunteers with a passion for the community. When the group put its collective heads together, they came up with the idea of sponsoring an annual Duck Derby which would bene���t Fayetteville Urban Ministry, but also other nonpro���ts in the community.
