SEPTEMBER 19-25, 2018 UCW 45 Best of Fayetteville Best Place to Buy Local Art Cape Fear Studios 148 Maxwell St. 910-433-2986 or www.capefearstudios.com Home to so many of our community's talented artists, Cape Fear Studios was established in 1989 and is the only visual arts cooperative in Fayetteville. This nonprofit organiza- tion prides itself on the growth and ex- ploration of the arts – offering opportuni- ties for both creation, purchasing and viewing. Local member artists pay an annual fee each year and volunteer their time to assist in the operation of the studios. CFS is supported by project grants and the generosity of donors. There is a gallery, a retail area, seven artist studios rented by member artists and an open area used for classes and meetings. CFS exhibits works of pottery, sculpture, photography, painting, glass, wood, jewelry and various other me- diums. These are all unique pieces created by member artists. Huge skylights throughout the building let in natural light and make this a wonderful place to work on and observe art. Visitors are free to wander in and out of the studios and watch the artists at work. Buying art at CFS supports the creative members of our community. The studio holds contests and exhibits throughout the year to showcase local talent and also brings renowned national and international artists to the area. Classes are available for local artists through the studio, as well. All this support for the creative community translates into plenty of one-of-a- kind local, handmade art, which is available for purchase. There is always a large and exciting selection of original works in the front gallery as well as prints of local art.
