SEPTEMBER 19-25, 2018 UCW 31 Best of Fayetteville Best Breakfast • Best Greek Cuisine Zorba's Gyro 2919 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville and 3114 N. Main St., Suite 106, Hope Mills 910-484-1010 Zorba's wins the hearts of our readers every year. Tradition is a big part of what Zorba's is all about, going back to 1958 when owner Tommy Frangakis immigrated from Greece and settled in Fayetteville three years later. It was another three years after that he opened Zorba's, with an emphasis on quality and family that his son John has continued since joining his father in the business in 1996. For Zorba's to be recognized for both its breakfast and Greek restaurant offerings is no surprise to anyone who's eaten there. Breakfast at Zorba's is a real treat. Customers can make specific requests on how their breakfast is prepared. Menu options include French toast, omelets and fruit pancakes. The centerpiece of Zorba's Greek offerings is its handmade gyros. Lamb and beef are slow-roasted over a spit before being sliced thin and served on a warm pita. Toppings include vegetables and yogurt-based tzatziki sauce. Another favorite is the Wednesday special, Zorba's spaghetti, which is homemade and includes your choice of meat sauce, Italian sausage, mushrooms or chicken parmigiana. Dessert, you ask? What else. Homemade baklava, a pastry lover's dream, with layered phyllo dough and crushed nuts soaked in honey. Zorba's added its second location in Hope Mills in 2009. Best Sunday Brunch Hilltop House Restaurant 1240 Fort Bragg Rd. 910-484-6699 or www.hilltophousenc.com If elegant yet low-key is what you are after for Sunday brunch, the Hilltop House is where you want to be. You can't get a much more positive endorsement from a client than this woman shared about Hilltop House. "Truly, this is a hidden jewel in the Haymount area,'' she said. "The owners are so friendly and every visit they treat us like their own personal family.'' That fits right in with the location and appearance of Hilltop House, which is located in the heart of the historic Haymount District in a circa 1910 home built by Scottish brothers Augustus Hiram Kelly and Duncan Ray Kelly. It's here where hungry meets history. The renovated original structure stands and never lost its near turn of the 19th century character, beauty and charm. The cuisine at Hilltop House mirrors the building it occupies, a combination of classic and traditional options with a few modern twists. But, without a doubt, the star attraction at the Hilltop House is its Sunday buffet brunch, which remains a huge favorite of city residents – especially those who like to enjoy a mimosa before lunch. One client described it this way. "What a wonderful end to my week,'' she wrote. "My friends sat outside and enjoyed our brunch. Southern charm at its finest.'' In addition, Hilltop House is available for parties and special events and as an amazing catering department. Best Food Truck R Burger 814 Larkspur Dr. 910-527-1467 or facebook.com/Rburgertruck Any discussion of local food trucks will rarely begin without someone singing the praises of R Burger. That's pretty impressive for a business that's only been around for three years. But owners Rob and Mary Russell aren't strangers to the food service business. Between them, they've got 15 years in the restaurant profession. Along with that experience, they are committed to helping support the community and using one question to drive anything they do in their business. "Is it the right thing to do?" There's no shortage of glowing comments and top ratings on their Facebook page from the many satisfied customers they've served in their relatively brief time in business. As impressive as the quality of their work is the pricing of their products. R Burger's top-of-the-line hamburgers go for as little as $5, and you can get a really hefty hot dog for $2.50. You can order from their menu selections or go crazy and let them create a special offering with your personal requests for toppings. Best Appetizers Outback Steakhouse 505 N. McPherson Church Rd. 910-487-9200 or www.outback.com Not a fan of NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick? If you like Outback's signature appetizer, the Bloomin' Onion, you definitely should be. For some time now, Outback has been sponsoring a promotion through NASCAR that will earn you a free Bloomin' Onion every Monday after Harvick places in the Top 10 of the previous weekend's NASCAR race. And in case you haven't been following NASCAR this season, Harvick is having a record kind of year, so the free Monday onions have been sprouting with regularity this racing season. The Bloomin' Onion may be the feature of Outback's appetizer offerings, but it's not a solo act by any means. The list of Aussie-tizers includes Aussie cheese fries, Kookaburra wings, Volcano shrimp, Bloom petals, steak and chicken quesadillas, crab cakes, steakhouse mac and cheese bites and of, course, shrimp on the barbie. They don't call them appetizers for nothing. Let them lead you into selecting one of Outback's many delectable, boldly seasoned steaks, cooked to your specific orders and accompanied by a baked potato with all the fixings or any of their other delicious sides. Check the race results and head on over soon. WINE & DINE WINE & DINE
