Page 22 Quartzsite Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition The Quartzsite Substance Abuse Prevent Coalition (QSAPC) was start- ed in 2007. This is a group of com- munity members raising awareness about the abuse of drugs and alcohol in the youth and adults in our com- munity. The mission of the QSAPC is to prevent the misuse and abuse of drugs and alcohol in the Quartzsite community. www.DesertMessenger.com vention Coalition, is welcome to come to our meetings that are held the third Thursdays of each month at 10a.m. in the afterschool building that's located just north of Town Hall. Contact info: Qsapc2012@gmail.com www.facebook.com/ qsapcoalition2012 QES events The QSAPC has recently started a youth sector called Quartzsite Youth Coalition (QYC). The QYC is a group of teens from this area ages 13-18. QYC has come up with many youth led projects for the community that they are eager to start. This group teens just hosted their first "free movie night" that was open to com- munity and they had a great turn out, and will be doing a scary movie night on Oct. 30th at 7p.m. The QYC meets every Friday at 2:30 in the afterschool building and anyone ages 13-18 who is interested is welcome to join us. Along with our new youth sector the QSAPC also has a "Dump the Drugs" site. Did you know there is place in Quartzsite to dispose of your expired or unused medications? The QSAPC has a "Dump the Drugs" location at our local Quartzsite Police Depart- ment, located at 305 N. Plymouth RD. This is a place where anyone can dispose of those potentially danger- ous, unused and expired medications. We urge everyone to please use this site so the medications are not ac- cidently taken or end up in the hands of children. October 22-26 Red Ribbon Week at Quartzsite October 31 Party Day at School for those who had a birthday this month. On Wednesday, Oct. 10th, I had the pleasure of doing a TV spot at Arizona Western College in Parker. It will be aired over the next week, three times a day. It will also be posted online at YouTube, Facebook and Twitter plus Cable channel 4 out of Parker. Thursday, October 11th, we received our fifth delivery of donated food from Covenent Lutheran church. Without these donations our food boxes would be very scimpy. Thank You so much for the donations! The Boy Scouts will be doing a Food Bank Updates Holiday Food Drive for us. There are donation boxes in several places in town. If you know of a business that would let us put a box ,there please contact me. And last but not least the Holidays are fast approaching and we could use turkeys for families and any other Holiday food. Thank You to all my volunteers for helping to make this happen. Carol Kelley Music Jams begin Music Jam at the Community Bible Church on Thursday's at 6:00 PM. Acoustic and electric. Come on over and meet all your friends. 375 E. Sun- rise in Quartzsite. This jam has been going on for half the summer. For more information call 928-927-5035. Acoustic Gospel music jam at the Alliance Church Fellowship Hall will start on Monday, October 15th at 6:30 pm. The boys' last Varsity game will be on Fri- day, October 12th. It is against Gila Bend at Salome. Do Work Frogs! The girls Varsity volleyball team has been trying their best, and are cur- rently 8-11. Both Varsity and J.V. won their games played on Friday against San Pasquel. The Varsity came in fourth at the Phoenix Christian Tournament on October 6th. Awesome job girls! Salome High School had a great homecoming turnout and an entertaining game. The football team played hard and won against the Mayer Bobcats. Great job frogs! We had college visits on Thursday 9/20, and the juniors and seniors had the chance to go to the tables and ask questions. The schools that came to visit were: ASU, AWC, UA, Yavapai and NAU Yavapai, Glendale and Cochise. Recently, the high school juniors and seniors also took the AS- VAB test. Sergeant Q will be coming back to interpret the test scores for those that took the test.
