Welcome Back Snowbirds! This past week has been challenging for a few of my friends. Health issues, emotional trauma and complicated issues have caused a few to question, What the heck is going on in our world? We are clearly living in times that challenge even the strongest of us. The sign above recently caught my attention in an online photo. This unique sign is the brain-child of Eric Dennis of Lansing, MI. Dennis is the founder of Team Good Sign and the Good Sign positivity movement. What is a Good Sign? According to his website, www.ThisisaGoodSign. com, "First and foremost it is about having FUN. It means many different things to many people. It is a hap- piness communication device, a feel of the Desert Messenger Email: editor@DesertMessenger.com DEADLINE is WED. It is the complete opposite of a protest sign; it is a sign of cel- ebration, pointing a fi nger at some- thing or someone that is doing a good job! As opposed to giving energy and attention to things are less than desirable, let's try the opposite." I know folks are trying to get people involved in local and national po- litical drama, saying, "rise up and protest!" It was refreshing to fi nd Dennis, who also just wanted to sup- port and encourage humanity during these troubled times. Dennis said, "We're so consumed with things and forget about what's important in life. It gets people to laugh, talk, and smile." The Oxford English Dictionary defi nes optimism as: "having hopefulness and confi - dence about the future or successful outcome of something; a tendency to take a favourable or hopeful view." Good Signs are a reminder of that optimism, a sign of hope. Dennis says the idea is to spread "an uplifting and fun message of encouragement while inspiring people to infuse their per- spectives with hope and positivity." I strongly agree. I encourage readers to have fun with the idea of sharing good news with each other, compli- menting strangers, and have HOPE!
