January 18, 2012 Metal Detectors Club The regular monthly meeting of the Quartzsite Metal Detectors Club will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 7pm in the QIA Building. The featured speaker will be Dr. Erik Melchiorre, Associate Professor of Sta- ble Isotope Geochemistry, California State University San Bernardino, De- partment of Geological Sciences. Dr. Melchiorre has been bringing his ad- vanced geology students to the Dome Rock Mountains to experience hands on field trips for the past eight years. His latest book "Gold Atlas of Quartz- site Arizona", Volume 1, will be un- veiled at the meeting and will feature a comprehensive guide to the charac- ter, distribution and mining history of placer and lode gold from the northern Dome Rock Mountains. Dr. Melchiorre has written several other books, most notably the "Gold Atlas of Rich Hill" and the history of the Octave Mine at Octave Arizona. www.DesertMessenger.com Early ballots go out soon Secretary of State Ken Bennett certified the candidates and determined their re- spective ballot position for the upcoming Arizona Presidential Preference Elec- tion on February 28, 2012. The Republi- can and Green parties were the two—of Arizona's five— recognized parties who chose to participate in the Presidential Preference Election (PPE). The Secre- tary of State's office certified 23 Repub- licans and 6 Green candidates. The last day to register to vote in the PPE is Monday, January 30th at midnight. Early voting begins Febru- ary 2nd and the last day to request an early ballot is on February 17th.
