A Point of View Research 714-499-3509 jkilleen@apointofviewresearch.com FOR MAYOR: Jerry Lukkasson March 13, 2012 YES Proposition 1 Paid for by Patricia Anderson, PO Box 4656, Quartzsite, AZ 85359 FOR COUNCIL: Barbara Cowell Joe Winslow Mike Jewitt Perspectives Quirky Quartzsite's Contributed by Violet Kiss I spent a little time this week at the Quartzsite Senior Center (QSC). Many do not know enough about this place and all of the good it has and wants to do to have this "harbor" for seniors to come eat, have fun and simply, socialize. There are many seniors in town who really need to get out of their homes to just get out and about and spend some time with others. A little history might be in order. In the summer of 2008, we lost 11 seniors to heat. Town, Fire and Police Officials got togeth- er discussing how to get the elderly (and otherwise) out of their homes for at least a short time. Casually the Noon lunches began and by 2009 the lunches became a formal part of the daily services. To that end, QSC has lunches year-round Monday through Friday at Noon (sharp) a good, healthy rounded meal, with a dona- tion of $3.00. For many people, that may be the only real important meal one has. QSC has worked hard as of late to make sure the quality and quantity of food is well accepted and tasty. One thing we are working on right now is Quartzsite Radio KBUX 94.3 FM http://kbuxradio.com • Quartzsite's Favorite "CLASSIC HITS" • Local Information • Weather • 24 Hours Day / 7 Days Week! 928-927-5111 First locally-owned and operated music station in Quartzsite, Arizona. This is some- January 18, 2012 thing the Town of Quartzsite thinks important to do. We will keep you updated on the sched- ules, etc. The goal of these and other discussions were to get people out and have more things to do. Today, you can see board games, jig saw puzzles, card games daily with additionally Wii Bowling on Mondays (10:30-Noon) and Rock Painting one time per week. Sugges- tions are always welcomed. The Internet WiFi is available for $7.00 per month and they have one computer available (donated by WACOG) for those who would like to check their email. In speaking with Wayne Wilson, Presi- dent of QSC, I asked for a "Mission State- ment", and here it is: "The Quartzsite Se- nior Citizens Center (QSC) was organized for educational, recreational and enter- tainment purposes, for enrichment of the lives of the Senior Citizens of our commu- nity. QSC strives to maintain a congenial and stress-free atmosphere." That's an excellent statement. What better than to have a place where our seniors can go to meet, eat, and greet in a peaceful setting, no confrontations and no politics. Please stop by, visit some and pick up their monthly schedule to see all of the fun things going on there and have a glass of iced tea or coffee always at the ready! There are many things going on at the at- tached Hall next door, listed on the sched- ule as well. The QSC hours are 9 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday.
