We all hope you enjoy your visit in Quartz- site and the beautiful So- noran Desert. With so many folks in our little town, it's good to be mind- ful of cooperating with each other to make this season a wonderful experience for ev- eryone. Lines are everywhere, so greet the person standing next to you with a smile and say hi! As in life, maybe it's a good time to remem- ber what James Cash Penney, founder of J.C. Penney stores said, "The keystone of successful business is cooperation. Friction retards progress." When I recently learned the United Na- tions declared 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives, I remembered many won- derful shopping experiences at the spectac- ular Ashland Food Co-op in Oregon. Quartzsite could be viewed as a suc- cessful cooperative effort of hundreds of thousands of folks, or it could be viewed as a nightmare. How you choose to view Quartzsite is totally up to you, just remem- ber it is a choice. In the mean time, boondocking camp- ers are keeping a watchful eye out for each other, folks are chatting in line at the Post Office, strangers join each others tables in restaurants, ATVers respect the trails and hikers, a shopper asked a stranger, "Where'd you get that jacket?", seasoned vendors are helping newbies, walkers are waving to drivers, volunteers are working hard and long hours at the QIA, Senior Center, the chamber, thrift stores, food bank, clubs, and other organizations...and life is good in Quartzsite. Speaking of good things in Quartzsite, be sure to check out the "Best of Quartzsite!" winners and mentions online in the De- cember archives at www.QuartzsiteBlog. com. Desert Messenger readers voted dur- ing the month of November for their favor- ites, in a multitude of categories, including the best time to visit the Quartzsite PO. I suggest we all try a little cooperation with each other this year of the Interna- tional Year of Cooperatives, with the UN theme, "Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World". P.S. This issue is a jammed packed 48 pages of information and ads. Due to the overwhelming response of advertisers, a few regular features were left out. Puzzles and Horoscopes will return in the next is- sue. Please tell our advertsisers you saw their ad in the Desert Messenger when shopping. To help you get around town, check out our new Quartzsite Show and Swap Meet Map on Page 47.
