Page 4 Big Thank you to Steve Bennett The Hi Jolly Cemetery Board would like to thank Steve Bennett for his most gener- ous donation of a Kool Kover for over the Veterans Pad. We have been trying to raise enough money to put a cover over this slab for over a year now so this donation is a big deal for us. We are so grateful. Thank you again and again. Dinice Ross and the Cemetery Board members Doggy doos Last year 'Dog Fancy' magazine printed a survey about pet owners picking up af- ter their precious pooches. 60% do not pick up after their dog(s) while 40% do. A couple of weeks ago during my morning walk with my dog I took a WalMart bag to pick up all the doggy doos in my neighbor- hood. I filled the bag. I did the same thing HAM RADIO Amateur Radio Bible Study 147.360 MHZ STARTS NOV. 1ST 8:00 AM Every Day Except Sunday Open to all HAMS and Scanners Do You Own a Side by Side Utility Vehicle? Again, my Wally World bag was full. Yesterday I saw a man walking his dog and I saw his dog doodoo. He took his foot to cover his pet's doodoo with rocks. I told him to pick it up. When I told him again to pick it up he gave me the bird. This behavior shows the mentality & ir- responsibility of this man by his actions towards a woman telling him to do the right thing. What are the reasons for the 60% not to pick up after their pet? Can't afford bags? The Dollar Tree in Blythe has a 4-pk package of 25 for a total of 100 bags for $1.00!! How can you go wrong? A bag has never broken on me. Do the 60% forget the carry a bag? I always carry 2-3 bags in my pocket whether I walk my dog or not. That way I never forget. Or do 60% have an "I don't care attitude" thus showing their irrespon- sibility to own a pet that gives them uncon- ditional love & devoted attention to their masters. If I can convince one person to pick up after his/her pet, mission accomplished. In the meantime, in a few more days I will take another Wally bag to pick up more doggy doos. We invite you to not only see a problem, but Gold assets I'm either dumber than I thought or not as smart. What's with this gold business? People who have it are trying to sell it on TV. If it's that good, why are they trying to get rid of it? There is one company selling gold that calls itself, Discount. How does that work? Does it mean they don't fleece the public quite as much as the others? If I tried to buy some I wonder what the price would be. Surely they must have a plan to make a profit. If your assets are tied up in gold and you are hungry and need to buy food how do you spend it? Do you walk into a store with an ounce or so of gold and scrape off a little with a knife? Or do you give them a coin for a loaf of bread or a pound of cheese and ask for about $1700 in change? Do you have to bring your own scale? Somebody help me out here, I'm really confused. Elmer London Quartzsite Thank you VFW I would like to thank the VFW for their large group of volunteers participating in the Hi Jolly Daze parade. I wish to thank them not only for sharing their beautiful motorcycles but for serving in the military to protect this great nation we live in. May God bless them all! Caryl Bates full time Quartzsite resident January 18, 2012 Disturbed by article I was taught growing up that you listen to both sides and you read good and bad be- fore you form an opinion. Jennifer Jones continues to amaze me with her opinions and definition of freedom of the press and honest journalism. Jones' recent front page story regard- ing the death of Councilman Bob Kelley disturbed me a great deal and continues to make me understand that she has little concern or respect for what people really think. It is downright dirty to take a man's obituary and use it as a tool to incite more negative and bad feelings. Despite what people may or may not think of what Bob Kelley was and stood for, Jones had no right to use the opinions of others to call him bad names as she did. In a court of law a person that did this would be told that your comments would be regarded as hearsay. It is a cruel and disrespectful thing to Bob's wife, Carol and his family for her to personally degrade a man whether you like him or not. He has passed on and deserves to rest well. I have, on two occasions, caught Jones telling only part of a story. She flatters her- self on her research, but most of the time it is not correct, over the top or creates something bigger than reality. One such story was the October Spaghetti Feed with Covenant Lutheran Church, Isaiah 58 and the Food Bank. Credit was given to one organization, even though Jones attended and did nothing to interview any of the participants. I know, because I served her and organized the entire event bringing all three groups together. When was the last time, if ever, that she raised a dime to help this community?
