January 18, 2012 Thank you to all the participants and vol- unteers who made the Annual Hi Jolly Daze Parade another huge success. This year, Joanne Robinson, of First Assembly of God Church, generously donated the funds for the live camel and handler to be in our pa- rade. What a treat! Joanne supports many local organizations quietly. She's a great as- set for Quartzsite! The camel came from The Camel Farm in Yuma, which was a huge hit both in the parade and at the park after for the festivities. Hundreds of pictures were taken of the camel and his handler in garb. The community is so proud of this year's Grand Marshall, Dinice Ross, whose hard work was instrumental in Hi Jolly Cemetery receiving National Registry status this year! Thank you to our Town Manager, Alex Taft, who helped with many last minute details, and our Quartzsite Police Dept. and local Ham Radio operators whose focus on safety was a must. A special "whoo hoo" thank you goes to Joannie Qualls, who answered the call and spent hours upon hours with pre- parade details, and for creating a wonderful after-parade event! Joannie has so much energy and helps all over town! Thank you to Musicians Donnie Miller and Karen, who entertained the crowd with their version of "Hi Jolly" and many other favorites. Violet Kiss was the MC of the parade, shar- Parade thanks ing bits and pieces of Quartzsite history, along with details on the entries. Quartzsite Fire Dept. and First Assembly of God provid- ed lots of delicious meals for folks at the park. The Quartzsite Historical Society held a bake sale with delightful treats. Mary Huntley and her volunteers sold Arizona Centennial of www.DesertMessenger.com Quartzsite souvenir hats and bags along with raffle tickets for the beautiful Centennial Quilt. The Nugget Wranglers Gold Prospect- ing Club also sold raffle tickets for an Arizona Centennial quilt. Both drawings will be held on Feb. 11th after the ATV parade. Thank you Judge Kimberlin, of Quartz- site Parks Dept., who once again helped on his day off with set up and break-down at the park. Thank you to all the Judges who poured over the 40+ entries; Carolyn Guthrie, Richard Trusty, Sandee and Den- nis Wall, and Pat Weisner. A special thank you to PJ Bettmann who painted the rock slabs used for trophies this year. Thanks to Angie Masales, who helped with organizing and parade lineup. We will miss you as you enjoy your new life in Lake Havasu City. Thanks to Monica Timberlake for her help with planning and last minute multi-task- ing. Thank you to the folks from Quartzsite Yacht Club who presented an entertaining line dance.
