"Quartzsite's FREE Community Paper" 541-218-2560 Huge crowds attend Hi Jolly Daze Parade Jan. 7th The 29th Annual Sports, Vacation and RV Show, fondly called "The Big Tent" opens Jan. 21st and runs through Sunday, Jan. 29th. This huge tent is located on the south side of town on 20 acres, provides an estimated attendance of over 150,000. The 15th An- nual Hobby, Craft and Gem Show will be held Feb. 1st thru Feb. 5th, with the 14th Annual Quartzsite Rock and Roll Classic Car Show on Feb. 4-5. For a full show schedule, see Page 45 and the Show Map on Page 47. Quartzsite, AZ -The Annual Hi Jolly Daze Parade was another huge success thanks to so many volunteers, and the live camel! Warm temperatures brought out the largest crowd in years, lining the streets. Over 40 entrants joined the fun this year. The winners were: Best of Show went to Hi Jolly and his live camel, of First Assembly of God Church. Best of Theme went to Quartzsite Roadrunners Gem & Mineral Club with their QIA shuttle and country band. The Best ATV went to the Church of Christ. The winner of the Musical Category was the 1880's Variety Show. The Best Youth Group went to the new Quartzsite 4-H Denim & Dust Club. There was a tie for the Organization/ Churches Category betweenthe Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts 116 and Cactus Dodgers Square Dance and Round Dance Club. The Best Classic/Antique Vehicle went to Quartz- site Police; riding on top were stuffed camels Officer Shultz brought back from Kuwait while serving in the Army from 2009-2010. The Best Business went to the Quartz- site Yacht Club. First Assembly of God's Hi Jolly and his camel also took first place in the Eques- trian Category. Renee & Donene Kroger came all the way from Iowa to take first place in the Family/Neighborhood Groups Category. The Best Pet went to Tina, the 4 year old Yorkie. After the parade, folks gathered at the pavilion in the park for some great entertainment and food. The camel,from the Camel Farm in Yuma, was a huge hit both in the parade and at the park where hundreds of photos were taken of the camel and handler.
