Additional amendments added a requirement for a yearly renewal of mari - juana cultivation registra- tions and transferred en- forcement of those regis- trations from the Tehama County Hea lth Ser v ices A gency to the Env iron- ment a l Hea lt h D epa r t - ment. The amendments were met with applause from a handful of Rancho Tehama Reserve residents in atten - dance. Residents there say illicit activity has increased un- der the guise of medicinal marijuana grows in their community. "It's a scary place to be right now," one resident said. "We are not a subdivision of pot farms," said another. The board adopted the amended ordinance as an urgency ordinance, citing an earlier than usual start to the marijuana growing season. The amendments were proposed by the board's marijuana cultivation Ad Hoc Committee, consist - ing of Supervisors Steve Chamblin and Bob Wil- liams. The committee said ban- ning grows on vacant lots was in similar fashion to other local counties' regu- lations. It a lso believed that grows on vacant lots were more likely to violate reg - ulations and be diverted to non-medical use. As for the requirement for yearly registration, the committee said it found registrants were not keep - ing their information up- dated. A hearing to raise the fee for registration is sched- uled for the April 29 board meeting. Me d ic i n a l m a r iju a n a proponent John Prinz crit - icized the ad hoc committee for not having any medici- nal marijuana users on the committee. He a l s o c omp l a i n e d about the lack of the word "medicinal" in the ordi - nance. First adopted in 2010 the county 's ma r ijua na cultivation ordinance was amended in July 2013 to in - clude monetary and crimi- nal penalties for those out of compliance. The coming growing sea- son will be the first under the new regulations. The board has also in- creased staffing levels to enforce the ordinance in the coming months. The Red Bluff Police De - partment and Tehama County Sheriff's Office hosted its sec- ond annual fundraiser to ben- ef it their canine programs, raising money for supplies, training and reserve funds in case something "horrific" hap - pens to the departments' four- pawed partners. "We don't want it to be a question of if we can take care of him," Red Bluff po - lice Capt. Kyle Sanders previ- ously said in a release. Sand- ers oversees the department's K-9 program, which has one four-pawed partner, a 4-year- old German shepherd named Many (pronounced Manny). Many's handler for the last two years, Cpl. Mike Brown, on Tuesday barked commands in German before a group of spectators like he does in the field. Only this time, the male adult on the run from Many's debilitating bite was Red Bluff police Chief Paul Nanfito, who was draped in a bulky "bite suit." "When he bites your arm it's like putting your arm in a vice," Nanfito said, adding that even with the padding his suit provides he still comes away with some bruises.
