Text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation. ���.D�����M��������.��� Hi Jolly Cemetery honored Submitted by Dinice Ross, Hi Jolly Cemetery I received a letter from Viva Strang, CPM, National Register Coordinator, State Historic Preservation Offi ce, in- forming, “you that the property listed above was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on Febru- ary 28, 2011.” (Hi Jolly Monument, Quartzsite, La Paz County, AZ.) In November 2010 we received a no- tice that the Hi Jolly Monument was approved to be placed on the Arizona State Register. This paperwork process was fi rst started in 1976 by Pauline Sandholdt. It was dropped and started again in 1994 by Pauline Sandholdt. Again it was set aside for further research. During 2006 the process was started again and got bogged down with the paperwork. I started the paperwork again in 2009 and it has been in the active process since. I have had a lot of help and would like to thank everyone that helped. Being on the National Register is big for the Town of Quartzsite, Hi Jolly Cemetery and our tourist industry. All of Quartz- site’s history is unique and interest- ing. Visiting the Museum, Library and Cemetery will give you an insight into its uniqueness. Party in park huge success By Joanne Winer The 15th annual Party in the Park to celebrate Celia’s Rainbow Gardens was held on March 20, and despite the breezy conditions, it was another huge success with over 400 people coming out to join in the fun. The party started at noon with the Barefoot and Boots band playing while the food was being prepared. Despite a few glitches with getting the food started (it was too windy to keep the barbecues going so they had to put tarps around the pavilion to block the wind), everyone was happy to sit and wait and listen to the music. The lunch was served a little later, and while everyone was getting their plates, many people were dancing to the great country music. Paul Winer, accompanied by Ralph Martin, played some stomping boogie woogie and blues music while the band took a break. The raffl e was held after his show, and many great prizes were won. Celia’s Rainbow Gardens Cook- books were on sale at the event, and sales were very good for this wonder- ful souvenir cookbook highlighting P��� 3 some great recipes from local resi- dents, snowbirds, family and friends, along with many colored photos of Celia and the Gardens. The cookbooks are now available at the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, Gen- eral Store, The Eatery, and the Quartz- site Community Thrift Store as well as Reader’s Oasis Bookstore. The money raised will help further the work in the Gardens. Many people took a walk over to the Gardens to see what had been done since they were there last, and some people went for the fi rst time and came back very impressed with the Gardens. It was a great day, and organizers would like to thank everyone who came out to share it with them. A special thanks to the Quartzsite Gen- eral Store, the Business Chamber, and all the volunteers who helped set up, serve and clean up after the event, es- pecially all the cooks who slaved over the hot barbecues!!
