Doris Davis, age 72, (left) and her daughter, Viveka “Salty” Davis (right) stopped off in Quartzsite, Arizona Tuesday, March 30th during their Walk Across America. They en- joyed a visit with local business owner, Paul Winer at the Reader’s Oasis Book- store, and then walked to Celia’s Rain- bow Gardens. Local residents offered parking space for their RV and visited until the wee hours of the morning. Rev. Davis, an Interfaith Minister, is committed to the seven-month walk of 2,639 miles from coast to coast hoping to empower women along the way. Rev. Doris Davis is one of the principle draft- ers of the Peace Walkers’ Pledge. She is also a recipient of the Sparkie Visionary Leadership Awards. Rev. Davis’ daughter, Viveka Davis Reed is an actress starring in television and in movies. Best known for her role in the 1983 NBC miniseries V as Polly Maxwell, she also starred as country singing leg- end Wynonna Judd in MBC TV minise- ries Naomi & Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge. “Salty” is producing a documen- tary of their journey across the nation. The two women travel with their driver and friend, Lester “Smitty” Smith, Jr. The Sole 2 Soul Walk began in Oceans- ide, Calif., on March 8, 2011, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, and ends on September 21, 2011 on the United Nation’s International Day of Peace in Washington, DC. “The world is in urgent need of women’s leadership and feminine qualities,” said Davis. “Now is the time for women to change the present destructive course and create cooperative, compassionate and successful ways to live together on the planet!” For more information visit www.Sole2SoulWalk.com. Box was in town to visit his parents last month and stopped for several hours at the Reader’s Oasis bookstore to sign some books and meet his fans. A good sized crowd came down to the store and purchased his series of adventures of Joe Picket, a ranger who gets into all kinds of situations on his quest for a better life for his family. The books are very popular and a great read. C.J. (Chuck) Box was also doing a book reading and signing at the Quartzsite library, where more of his fans gathered to hear him read an excerpt from his newest book that is just being released in hardcover this week. The newest book called Cold Wind is now available at the Reader’s Oasis Bookstore in hardcover, and will also be available for checkout at the library.
