F 16, 2011 Town updates Submitted by Patricia Anderson The Plymouth Rd. Beautifi cation is coming along, of course not as fast as we would like. The water that will be used for the desert plants is minimal because per Town water effi cient landscape Ordi- nance 07-01 only low water use plants are to be used. The money for this project was ob- tained through a grant, in this case it was for a walking path, shade struc- tures and desert plantings. The newly formed “Vendor, Swap Meets and RV Parks Municipal Board” is in the process of adding another member; this will bring the total to 7. Their duty will be to formulate, cre- ate and recommend to the Common Council any lawful plans duly adopted by the Board for the future well being of the Vendor, Swap Meet and RV Park Community, for the best interest of the Citizens of Quartzsite. The meetings will of course be open to the public. Quartzsite is winding down from an- other very succussful Vending season. Sorry to see many of our “family” .D M. leaving, hope you all return again next year! Quartzsite’s year long Centennial cel- ebration began last Saturday with the 6th annual ATV parade, and then on Monday the “365 days and counting” birthday party at Town Hall Sponsored by the Rotary. Arizona became the 48th State on Feb. 14, 1912. We are looking forward to ice cream socials, music jams, and just plain fun all year long. Check the Desert Messenger regu- larly for the upcoming events. Patricia Anderson Quartzsite Town Council FOR USED RV‛s, 5th Wheel & CASH Bumper Pull Trailers Call Steve 480-363-8025 (Satellite Voting Feb. 22nd) March 8th After retiring in April 2001, my husband Floyd and I (Patricia Anderson) moved to Quartzsite, bought property and settled in. We have seen many changes in Quartzsite. What has not changed is the giving and serving spirit of many of the residents and visitors. I have had the honor of working with many of you. I have served with the following groups: • Fire Auxiliary, President • Care Watch, Volunteer • Senior Center, Volunteer • Salvation Army, Volunteer • Hi Jolly Cemetery Board, Co-Chair • La Paz County Search and Rescue, Secretary, one of the Founding Members to get 501(c)3 status • La Paz County Advisory Council What I would do to cut spending: continue with the audits to fi nd out who is connected to town water and sewer and who is not; fi nd out who has been receiving these services without pay- ing for them; continue auditing indi- viduals who owe the town money for sales taxes or permits; retain the highly skilled staff at Town Hall, Library, Public Works, Wastewater Plant, Police Dept., Parks Dept. and their respective staff. None of us want “big government”. We must, however, follow certain rules to be able to prosper and grow fairly. In November 2009 the Acting Mayor and Council passed a Resolution de- claring “Fair and Equitable Treatment for all in Quartzsite”. That is how we do the business of the town. Town Hall has received letters from the League of Arizona Cities commend- ing them for taking the steps necessary to stabilize Quartzsite’s economy. Every fall we look forward to our win- ter visitors and vendors returning. We strive to continue to provide the ser- vices that we have in the past. Barbara Cowell, Jose Lizarraga, Jerry Lukkasson & Joe Winslow Keep us working with and for you.
