P 26 My Garden Angels By Joanne Winer Last summer, we had a bad wind- storm, and several of the little build- ings in the Pioneer Village area of Ce- lia’s Rainbow Gardens were damaged and many of them lost their roofs. We felt really bad about it, of course, and started looking for someone who would take on the job of fi xing them up again, and strengthen them so they would not get damaged further. This fall, I was happy to hear from a man named Jud Munsell, a winter visitor who comes from Pennsylvania for the season, and volunteers some of his time to the Cibola Wildlife Refuge. He enlisted the help of Tom Barnes, another winter visitor from Texas who lives full time in his 5th wheel and is a member of the Roadrunner Gem and Mineral Club. They asked me if they could work on the roofs and supports of the buildings that had been dam- aged, and of course I said yes. They have been going out to the Gardens several days a week over this winter, and have done a fantastic job of repairing and replacing the roofs on the miniature village of Adamsville!! They plan to come back in the fall and do some more work to get the build- ings really refurbished, and one of the buildings (the house of ill repute!) has also been taken home by Earl Jaycock, another friend who lives here, to work on and repair. They have done a great job and we thank them so much for all their hard work and efforts to save these buildings from further damage. Looking forward to seeing them all again this fall!! Would also like to thank all the la- dies (and gentlemen) who submitted recipes for the fi rst Celia’s Rainbow Gardens cookbook, which is now at the printer and should be back in a few weeks!! I am really happy with the way it turned out--not as professional as some, but closer to the heart than most. It is full of recipes, anecdotes and color photos of Celia and the Gardens. Paul drew me a wonderful colorful cover with smiling saguaros and there are pages of information about the Gardens and how it came to be. If you wish to or- der ahead for it to be mailed, pick up an order form at the Readers’ Oasis Bookstore--the cost of the book will be $15.00 per copy, and if we ship it to you it will be another $4.95 (priority). I will also be set up at the Author’s Fair somedays when it gets here so I will have lots of copies then. Don’t forget the annual Party in the Park that we have every March to cel- ebrate the volunteers and all the sup- porters of the Gardens. It will be held this year on Saturday, March 19 starting at noon, and will in- clude barbecue lunch and lots of great music. More details next issue!! F 2, 2011 Search and Rescue needs help Search and Rescue (SAR) is a non- profi t, 501(c)3 corporation. We are in need of a building for the stowing of a vehicle and some other equipment. SAR would be very appreciative of someone donating such to the group. However, a fi ve year or longer low cost lease will also work. If someone has just land, SAR would fi nd some way to get a building placed on the property. We have very little in the bank (ap- prox. $700.00) and while we are look- ing into grants, etc. That will take some time. We also are in very real need of six (6) radios which are going to cost ap- proximately $1600.00 each, so we will be able to communicate with all agencies during searches to provide the best support for the county. Any donates to the radios would be very much appreciated.
