Rainbow acres golf winners of 12/30/10 Dan Perkins on the left & partner, Robert Barnard on right photo by Linda Taylor D RAINBOW ACRES HOSTS ESERT GOLD TOURNAMENTS Every two weeks Rainbow Acres is host- ing a different format golf tournament for interested players on its desert course. The entrance fee is $6 for the 18 hole tournament. The first tourney was held December 16, and 30 people showed up for the scramble event despite the rainy morning. Two teams tied at 21 under par that day. The team of Russ Leininger, Linda Tay- lor, and Robert Webb won in a sudden death playoff with Richard Webb, Jerry Taylor, and Harvey Gibson. The second tourney was a 2-person Texas scramble format held December 30. The event was won in dramatic fashion as Robert Bar- nard aced the par 4, 18th hole with his partner Dan Perkins to beat out the team of Darlene Aitkins and Jerry Taylor. The next tournament will be January 13, Thursday with a 9:00 sign in and 9:30 shotgun start. Playing some of the best boogie woo- gie and blues you’ve every heard is local bookstore owner and former en- tertainer “Sweet Pie”, along with some of his local friends! They will give you a great evening’s entertainment--local guitar player Jerry Mullins, members of Skyhawk band, and Ralph Mar- tin on his washtub bass will join Paul for several selected songs throughout the show. The performance starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, in the Main Hall at the Q.I.A. Admission is $5.00 per person at the door. Come on out and enjoy some great piano blues and boogie woogie, along with Paul’s special style of humor and songs the he has written over the years as well as some old favorites.This will be his first official concert in Quartzsite, and it is expected to be a full house, so get there early if you want a good seat!! This will be their 3rd year in Quartzsite, singing some of their best songs from way back when (you remember them, though, don’t you) Every performance they have done here in the past few years has been such a lot of fun and brings back some great memories of when they played their hits on television and in concerts all over the world. Randy Sparks, one of the original members, wrote a song called Set Your Sights on Quartzsite, and the Legend of Hi Jolly, just for their first appearance here and last year they sang their songs in two concerts, one at 2 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m. They will be playing at the QIA Main Hall on Friday, January 14, and will again do the two shows, since not everyone could see them in only one!! Tickets will be on sale at the QIA office, and they are $12.00 per person. Don’t miss this great show from some of the best musicians that came from way back when and are still going strong!!
