J 5, 2011 Q Mt. Restoration Mary Huntley Arizona Centennial of Quartzsite Sometimes we think we are so far ahead of ourselves, but in actuality we are re- ally behind. Well, this December 10th, I was certainly pushing the envelope. When I spoke to the Scholars’ Academy about the “Q” Project, I jumped the gun. Totally convinced the date was the 10th, in reality it was the 16th. I take full responsibility for the mix up. When the students did not arrive, I began to panic. With a few phone calls, people started to pitch in. I mean, what are going to do with 25 gallons of white- wash mixed already, but to continue on. This certainly has been my worst blunder in the past several years, so I wish to thank the kind hearted people who came to my rescue. First off, to Chief Kevin Hess, for sending two crew members…in case of emergency, Kim Scott for the 50 gallon barrel for water, Jim Cowell for the use of his generator to mix the whitewash, Jerry Lukkasson for calling in more help, and all of the following for carrying buckets numerous times to the site and helping to pour; Steve Rossi, Eileen Rossi, Vinnie Alcaraz, .DM. Mike Nachef, Ron Hines, Loretta La- badie, Don Bykonen, Gerardo Aranda, Joe Winslow and “Chunk” the dog. Wes Huntley and Jerry did a super job of the mixing and keeping us all busy. Just a little side note, the day was beautiful, in the mid 60’s with a slight breeze. It took some 100 gallons of wa- ter, 200 pounds of lime and several boxes of salt. If you remember, Dec. 16th, it rained and we would have had to cancel. So I guess things worked out! Thank you to everyone for a great job. Oh, and if you ever get a chance to climb the mountain, the view is spectacular! to Dig? Need Have Backhoe! will meet with you!
