ONLY $39,000 February 6, 2013 Quartzsite Council member Workman resigns - - - then rescinds By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Quartzsite, Arizona - In an unusual turn of events, within two short hours Thursday afternoon, January 31st, Quartzsite Town Council Member Pat Workman resigned, issued a press release, and then changed her mind, rescinding her resignation. Workman's short resignation letter states, "To all whom it may concern; I am as, effective at the filing of this document (with the Town of Quartzsite Arizona), resigning from the Town of Quartzsite Common Council. I am turning in my key to the lobby mail receptacle with this resignation notice/document." According to Town records, the letter and key were turned in with at 1:55pm. Workman stated, "To the greater community of the Town of Quartzsite: I have, as of today, resigned from the Quartzsite Town Council. I anticipate the Council will be soon processing my resignation so a qualified person can be appointed to my vacated Council seat. I am resigning because I am unable to perform my duty. The Town has withheld, concealed, and delayed public records from me, including correspondence to which I should have been provided access in a timely manner. Without appropriate access to information which the Town controls, I cannot represent the interests of my constituents. I will continue to act in the best interests of this community." Then, according to Town records, at 3:40pm the following letter was received: "To whom it May Concern: I hereby rescind my Letter of Resignation that I presented this afternoon after having received what I now believe to be improper advice from a third party. It is not now nor was it then my desire to resign from my council position. I erroneously believed that nothing could be done to prevent information from being withheld from me that subsequently is making it nearly impossible for me to do my job as a council person. I want to continue to perform my duties and will work within the system to obtain the information I so desperately need to accomplish those ends. Thus, I rescind my previous letter of today and apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused." Desert Messenger reached out to Workman for comment. Her response via email was: "MS Golden Bear; Because The Desert Messenger has a reputation for distorting the truth, and has repeatley [sic.] printed falsehoods, and outright lies about people, and events that have taken place in this community over the last few years, as well as omitting important facts that are revelant [sic.] to the stories you attempt to report, I am not interested in giving you any comments to manipulate. I recommend you just forget trying to be a newspaper, stick to what you advertise, and be a "Community" paper, reporting on community happenings. Pat Workman" Workman was elected to Quartzsite Town Council in May 2012, winning Joe Winslow's seat.
