DECEMBER 2-8, 2015 UCW 19 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Artists from the Sweet Tea Shakespeare theater company will present Behold at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 and 11. The performances are free and open to the public. Featuring Andrew Peterson's Behold the Lamb of God with music and readings by the artists of Sweet Tea Shakespeare, the show is an opportunity to center oneself during the hustle and bustle of Advent and the Christmas season. "Behold is a folk Christmas cantata telling a story through song," said Marie Lowe, one of the assistant artistic directors of STS. "It is the Christmas story told through upbeat, family friendly music." Holiday performances can sometimes seem to get bogged down in tradition and start feeling stuffy, Lowe said, but not a performance by STS. "This is gonna be fresh," she said, adding that the performance is a gift back to the community in appreciation of support to the theater company. "It's gonna be really fun," Lowe said. "The music is wonderful and uplifting." She said it is a perfect outing for anyone who wants to hear good music, the Christmas story, join in fellowship, "or anyone needing a pick-me-up." This is the first year for the production, but STS hopes it becomes a new tradition in the community. "We would like to make this an annual event, make it an inclusive event and really share the Christmas spirit," Lowe said. "In the future, if this event takes off, we'd love to make it a charitable event." While there is no admission charge, monetary donations will be accepted and will benefit both STS and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Lowe said that Behold is larger than a production during the STS regular season. "This is musically a little more than we usually do in our shows," she said. Behold will feature a cast of about a dozen and will add piano, violins, vocalists. It will be "a little grander" than a regular season STS performance. STS performers come from a variety of backgrounds, Lowe said. The company includes university professors, local teachers and music ministers from local churches. It also includes a few theater students from Fayetteville State University, Methodist University and Fayetteville Technical Community College. The youngest STS performer is a 15-year-old high school student. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 and 11 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church located at 1601 Raeford Road.
