SEPTEMBER 14-20, 2016 UCW 15 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM POLITICS POLITICS Most Responsive City City of Fayetteville 433 Hay St. 910.433.1992 or www.cityoffayetteville.org Nat Robertson has been the Mayor of Fayetteville since 2013. Growing up in Fayetteville Robertson learned about community and giving back from his father who owned Robertson Jewel- ers and the General Nutrition Center stores on Raeford Road and Bragg Boulevard. He carried that sense of community with him throughout high school at E.E. Smith, at Fayetteville State University and at Elon University where he earned a bachelor's of art in public administration. Elected to Fayetteville City Council at the age of 26, Robertson was the youngest coun- cil member ever elected. He served four terms on the Council where he learned the ins and outs of the city government, before tackling the job of Mayor. As the Mayor, he focuses on policy and not politics and on doing the right things for the right reasons! Under his leadership, the Council reestablished the City/County Liaison Committee, the Police Department saw double digit reduction in crime and the community has grown closer. He is striving to bring common sense back to City government by focusing on the im- portant issues and working with businesses to build the economy. Most recently the Mayor has championed the proposal to build a ball park in downtown - a move that go a definite thumbs up from Up & Coming Weekly readers. Most Responsive County Politician Jimmy Keefe PO Box 1829 910.678.7771 or www.co.cumberland.nc.us Jimmy Keefe, a native of Fayetteville is serving his second four-year term as County Commissioner. Like many of public leaders, Keefe is a native of Fayetteville. His father, a Special Forces officer, raised his children to serve and to take responsibility. Keefe gradu- ated from Pine Forest high School and later The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army prior to taking over the family's business - The Trophy House - in 1987. Keefe's desire to serve the community can be seen by looking at how he spends his time. Over the past 25 years, Keefe has been involved with civic and government organi- zations at the city, county and state level. While serving on the County Com- mission, Keefe has earned the respect and loyalty of his constituents who can only count on him to do what he says. Most Respected Civic Leader Judge Robert Stiehl During this election season, you would be hard pressed to find someone to say something nice about a politician. But that isn't the case with Chief District Court Judge Robert Stiehl. Stiehl, a graduate of Campbell Univer- sity and a former member of the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, has earned his reputation for credibility, fairness and justice over the past 12 years. When appointing Stiehl to the post to replaced Judge Beth Keever, Supreme Court Justice Mark Martin said, "Judge Stiehl has served with distinction as district court judge, and I am confident he will provide strong lead- ership necessary for the successful administration of the district courts of Cumberland County." The folks in Cumberland County agree with Judge Martin and call it an honor to name His Honor, the Most Respected Civic Leader.
