OCT 29 - NOV 4, 2014 UCW 3 ELECTION GUIDE 2014 ELECTION 2014: U.S. SENATE Senator Kay Hagan, Democrat Jobs and the economy, educa- tion and supporting our service- members and military families are my top three priorities. As North Carolina families are still struggling in this economy, we need bipartisan solutions that create a better environ- ment for businesses to create jobs and grow. I supported a successful bill to encourage small business hiring and I support a $10.10 mini- mum wage increase. As a mom of three kids, I know how important education is for our children's futures. I fought to stop student loan rates from doubling and sup- ported a bill that turns around our lowest performing schools. And, (while serving) in Raleigh, I included a teacher pay raise every year for a total average increase of 21 percent. I am also committed to our servicemembers and military families. I worked to restart Tuition Assistance for our ac- tive duty servicemembers and helped get closure and care for families affected by Camp Lejeune water contamination. I will continue to fight every day for middle class families and to make an economy that works for everyone. I learned the value of hard work growing up in a family of modest means. We need a senator who understands the day-to-day challenges of the middle class — I do. I raised a family while struggling to make ends meet and attending school at night. I've realized the American dream and I will ensure others across our great nation have the same opportunity. As Speaker of the House, I fulfilled my promise to cut taxes, spending and regula- tions and we put our economy back on track so that all North Carolinians have a chance to realize their dreams. I worked to increase education funding and provided teachers with a historic pay raise. It wasn't always easy; but I've always done what's right for North Carolina. As your U.S. Senator, I will work across the aisle to implement common-sense policies that will provide Americans with more oppor- tunities. That means repealing and replacing ObamaCare, balancing the budget and restoring accountability. I will take on Barack Obama and the Washington establishment for our great nation. I will not be a partisan rubber stamp. I will put Americans first. If you think it's time for a change, I hope you will vote for me."
