But make no mistake — holding fast to absolute truth in a world of choices endorsed by legislative action can be challenging. In a single 20-minute span of time listening to WCLN, you are likely to be comforted in the pain of loss or regret, encouraged to help those around you, motivated to live life to its fullest and reminded that above all else, God knows and loves you. Hard to imagine those things as creating division, but sadly, they do. My mailbag (by which I mean Facebook feed, private messages and anony- mous emails) is full of opposing views. As we repeat our mantra — keeping the main thing the main thing — we repeatedly find ourselves challenged by proponents of every imaginable agenda-driven issue as well as those in the church. To the former we get lumped in with "Christians" as used in the headlines. The term (in that sense) apparently means bigoted, mean spirited egocentrics. With the latter, we find ourselves charged with softening and watering down the gospel with songs that seem to come from the illustra- tions in the middle of the sermon. Not pointed or worship-py enough. It's nothing new. Consider this 240-year old quote: "If you are going to walk with Jesus Christ, you are going to be opposed ... In our days, to be a true Christian is really to become a scandal." George Whitefield, 1714-1770. Still, we choose to stay on task and on target. Every single day I hear from someone whose derailed life was hoisted back on track after hearing a song or an encouraging word on Christian 107.3. That's why we're here. That's why we take the criticism with a smile today, and why we'll still be doing this tomorrow. We are very intentional when it comes to selecting the music we add to our playlist. Every song we are asked to consider is weighed for its musical value, but is also subject to scrutiny for its message. Though there can many interpretations for any single verse from the Bible, we want to be certain the lyrics of every song we add provides a solid answer to any question it poses. That's part of what we mean by "keeping the main thing the main thing." Christian 107.3 hosted a well-attended event at a local church recently, and I overheard a conversation between a guest and a church staff member. It went something like this: Guest: "You guys have a good thing going. It's obvious you're in touch." Staffer: "Well, it helps to really like people." That's how I would prefer to be known ... as someone — a radio station even — that really likes people. We charge ourselves with providing a con- sistently reassuring message in an increasingly troubled world. When you need a gentle nudge in the right direction, turn to 107.3 FM. That's what we do.
