According to La Paz County Elections all ballots were counted on March 10th. Patricia Anderson defeated Patricia Workman, 327 votes to 288. Barbara Cowell defeated Jennifer Jones, 345 votes to 272. Jose Lizarraga defeated write-in candidate Sean Austin, 358 votes to 184. Jerry Lukkasson defeated write-in candidate Victor Lee, 342 votes to 207. Joe Winslow defeated David Gjerdahl, 324 votes to 281. A total of 627 ballots were cast out of 1,406 reg- istered voters for a turnout of 44.59 percent. Successful Chili Cook-Off & Rock Auction Chili and Rocks? Only in Quartzsite, Arizona! QUARTZSITE- After weather postponed the Chili Cook-off, the organizers rescheduled with Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite’s (PNQ) 2nd An- nual Rock Auction for March 5th. The change proved to be a new hugely successful event for the community! Sponsored by the Arizona Cen- tennial of Quartzsite the Chili Cook-off drew hundreds of folks choosing the best chili in the area and curious about the Rock Art Pieces. WINNERS: Big Sky Chili/Becky Coon took the $1000 First Place; Proud Neighbors of Quartz- site /Darlene Hein won $500 for Second Place; Mountain Quail Café/Michael Hager won $250 for Third Place. Award Winning Chili with John & Helen Goudeau won for Showmanship and Curt Bailey won the Salsa Challenge (see page 4 for thank you letter). PNQ auctioneers, Richard McBride and his Great turnout for New Art Show QUARTZSITE- A New Artist’s Gallery Showing was held Friday, March 4 at the Mountain Quail RV Park Recreation Hall.  SEE ART PAGE 6 helper Jerry Livingston, auctioned off 16 Art Pieces. The auction raised $2665, of which $300 will be donated to the Town Park Chil- dren’s Playground. The two slabs Quartz- site Elementary School children painted raised $375, which will donated to the new Quartzsite Children’s Art Fund. The two Rock Art painted by the children were do- nated to the Children’s Library and Quartzsite Elementary School, so the children can contin- ue to see their fi ne work! Proceeds raised through “Rockin’ in Quartz- site” will be distributed to local charities through their “Volunteer Equity Program”. (Volunteers donate their time/points to their favorite char- ity).
