JAN. 26TH The Quartzsite Improvement Associa- tion (QIA) hosts their extremely popu- lar Pancake Supper on every Wednes- day night from 5-6pm. After your dinner on January 26th, stick around for a Quartzsite Town Hall Meeting! There is a Town Hall meeting planned for Wed. Jan. 26th at 6:30pm to be held at the QIA. The public is invited to discuss town issues with Quartzsite council members. It is a moderated meeting and ques- tions should be submitted on cards, which will be provided. Arrive early... meeting will start on time. If you ar- rive late, there will be a break to accept more questions on cards. ���.D����� M��������.��� Many complain that the council will not answer questions raised during the Call to the Public during regular council meetings. Although the Open Meeting Law per- mits the public to attend public meet- ings, it does not require public partici- pation in the public body’s discussions and deliberations and does not require a public body to include an open call to the public on the agenda. See Ariz. Att’y Gen. Op. No. I78-001. In the “Town Hall Meeting” format, Quartzsite Council gives the public the opportunity to ask the questions. The council will not be making any deci- sions at this meeting. “They will not be doing any town business”, said Alex Taft, Town Manager. The newly elected mayor was not eligible at that time, however there are now recall efforts against Mayor Ed Foster. Signatures were gathered, a call for candidates publicized, and of the 6 council members recalled, only 3 are being challenged. Jennifer “Jade” Jones is up against incumbent Bar- bara Cowell. Pat Workman is running against incumbent Patricia Anderson. David Gjerdahl is challenging incum- bent Joe Winslow. Council Members Jose Lizzaraga Bob Kelley, and Jerry Lukkasson are unopposed. The special election is scheduled for March 8, 2011. The last day to regis- ter to vote is Feb. 7, 2011. Only legal residents of Quartzsite, Arizona are eligible to vote.
