P 4 THOMAS SOWELL I love to read the Desert Messenger early on line and then pick up the print issue at my leisure. I’m glad I did because I forgot the Thomas Sowell quote in the column Strange, But True. One of my favorite quotes by him is, “The beauty of doing nothing is that you can do it perfectly. Only when you do something, it’s almost impossible to do it without mistakes. Therefore, people who are contributing nothing to society except their constant criti- cisms can feel both intellectually and morally superior.” If anyone has a favorite quote of his I would love to see it in print again. Thanks for the great paper where anyone can voice their point of view. Sincerely, Carolyn Guthrie, Quartzsite “THE PEOPLE’S VOICE” Letters to Editor Policy Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. Jan. 8th. The “Rail Splitters” will return on WEDNESDAY, Feb. 9th. Thanks again and hope to see you with us then... Thanks, Betha Mueller QUARTZSITE RESIDENTS & SNOW BIRDS! Thank all of you for your generous response. Last month we had the privi- lege of working with the Salvation Army as bell ringers. First we would like to thank the volun- teer ringers, Owen Johnson, Paul and Verna Lines, Pete Kelly, Eileen, Donna Pilgrim, Dianne, Valerie Loucks, Dewey and JoAnn Forness, Tom and Pam Buggs, and Charlie and Betty Buggs. The generous support of the following merchants made this drive to support our community successful. A major disappointment was the lack who provided live music at some of the locations. All funds collected went directly back into the community. For all of us that rang the bells there was what I call a lot of “feel good” to be had. My organiza- tional skills left a bit to be desired but we know where to go and how to do it next year. Gene and Maggie Ross SALVATION ARMY RUMORS Every penny that is donated to the Sal- of support from some of our corporate citizens that told us we could not ring at their business, because of their cor- porate policy. The following merchants supported us by allowing us to ring in front of their business’s. Family Dollar, The General Store, The Road Runner Store, Main Street Laundry and Eatery, Horizon Community Bank, and the Park Place Travel Center ( Arco AM/PM Store). We were also allowed to set up adja- cent to the Post Offi ce. Also, a special thanks to Dennis and Linda Thelander Chiropractic $ Adjustments Quartzsite 25 Dr. Michael Cole, D.C. When you purchase an item at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Quartzsite, the money stays right here, locally. All monies raised by the bell ringers, cash donations, purchases, etc. are used to help with local food assistance, electric bills, emergency lodging, and getting folks settled into apartments, etc. Over the past year, we have helped more than 50 people per month here in Quartzsite. We did up 30 Thanksgiving baskets and 50 Christmas baskets, plus the An- gel Tree. We’ve helped with toilet and sewer repair, tires & batteries. The Salvation Army is supported by your donations. At this time of year, we are extremely busy helping those in need. Please continue to give and shop. The Salvation Army is located right behind Silly Al’s Pizza off W. Main St., Quartzsite. We’re open Mon – Sat. 9am-1pm. These two visuals are born of seven women who gathered together shortly after witnessing horrifying bully be- havior at the guest podium of our town council meeting during the summer. We, at the time of the report have only 6 dogs and 26 cats living here. Today we only have 3 dogs and 25 cats. Yes, we are still at capacitity for cats, but the dogs come and go. Thank you to all of the volunteers, donors, adopters(new par- ents) and everyone that has supported the shelter in some way. Without you we could not have completed this goal. May the New Year bring Happiness, Joy and Good Health to you all. Thank You, Patty Patton Animal Shelter Chairman DO NOT WAIT Do not wait until the election to make changes in the council seating.
