Humans have always used land mostly for hunting,
gathering, or growing food and having places to live.
Today, our food is grown on farms and ranches with
fields for crops and pastures for grazing. We live in
neighborhoods filled with houses and apartment
buildings. There are city and town squares, business
complexes, industrial districts, and shopping centers.
