Box 1802 Sonoma, CA 95476 © 2020 by Vicki Whiting Happy September, We live in an age of information that can take us on adventures, give us access to knowledge, help us fulfil our dreams and lead us on to success in our lives. We all want that. We can achieve these goals by becoming better readers. Kid Scoop News helps you read and the more you read, the better you will read. So much depends on reading, from computer lessons to texts on phones. We use our Brain to read, and so we have a page here to show you how a brain works. Frederick Douglass was able to read and write even though he was enslaved. He went on to write a book about his life and he helped end slavery. September 17 is Constitution Day and one of the freedoms given us by the Constitution is the right to freedom of speech. Our spotlight page will help you understand what that means. And this issue has lots of fun things to do too from Outdoor Games that involve getting some exercise, to Space Rocks that explains all those rocks hurtling through space and then a page on Gorillas and how to draw one. I'm ready to read, read, read. This year I'm going to expand my mind and I hope you are too. Dear Readers, Wearing a Mask ........ Freedom of Speech ... Space Rocks .............. Draw a line connecting each pair of beetles that match. eetles have a special body part that makes them, well, beetles. This special body part is a hard exo-skeleton that covers their wings. Called elytra (El-ih-truh), these hard "wings" provide protection and more. Some beetles trap moisture on their wings, allowing them to survive in the desert. Other kinds of beetles are able to live under water because they trap air in their wings and keep it under the elytra. 2 When do monkeys fall from the sky? During Ape-ril showers! March blows in with the wind and heralds the arrival of Spring. In March we celebrate Women's History Month with the story of Sonia Sotomayor who is the first Supreme Court Justice of Hispanic heritage. With hard work and determination, she was able to achieve her dreams. We also feature the "We Can Do It" ladies in the report on Rosie the Riveter. Their story tells how they stepped up to help the allies win World War II. And, of course, we can all have some fun in celebrating St. Patrick's Day on March 17. See if you can follow the step-by-step instructions to draw a leprechaun and then go to the Leprechaun Gold page for some background information on how leprechauns fill their pots of gold! What are drones, Leprechaun Planes? It's a bird! It's a bug? It's waaaay too small to hold a person. Who flies in these little planes? Kid Scoop News looks at drones and the benefits and problems this technology has created. Color in the beautiful illustration of a Red-winged Blackbird and you can also color in the planets on the Solar System page. Each time you read a page in Kid Scoop News, go ahead and color a planet. Box 1802 Sonoma, CA 95476 © 2021 by Vicki Whiting Last night, I had a strange dream. I was walking to school in my pajamas but suddenly felt myself floating off the ground. Next thing I knew, I had feathers and a beak. I was a bird! Flying was really fun but tiring. So, I sat on a cloud to rest. I sank through the cloud and then fell through the sky. I splashed down into a pond. I could swim really well because now I was a fish! A much bigger fish started chasing me. I jumped out of the water to escape and flew back to my room. I was a flying fish. Then my alarm went off and I woke up. Read about Kevin's dream. Then number the pictures in order. Standards Link: Health: Understand the influence of sleep. Reading Comprehension: Sort story into correct sequence. www.kidscoop.com © Vicki Whiting March 2021 Official Kids Mag
