2020 Football Preview 22C n Wednesday, August 26, 2020 Herald-Leader/Westside Eagle Observer Hornets looking to push further in 2020 By Graham Thomas Staff Writer n gthomas@nwadg.com COLCORD, Okla. — The Colcord (Okla.) Hornets have produced back-to-back 7-4 seasons in head coach Austin Martin's first two years with first-round playoff exits in both seasons. With a strong group of play - ers returning and a new dis- trict, Martin hopes the 2020 Hornets can make a push for an extended run in this year's postseason. "I think we just have to all keep working for the same goal," Martin said. "We've all got to be bought in. We need to figure out what we need to get better at and fix it, be a close team and work for a common goal and stop mak - ing excuses and take care of ourselves." The Hornets resumed work- outs in early June after missing nearly three months because of the covid-19 pan- demic. It's been an interest- ing summer, full of health guidelines and protocols and uncertainty. Martin said Col- cord couldn't let that affect its preparation. "I've talked to them throughout the summer," Martin said. "Even coaches we've had meetings. We have to prepare and plan to play. I talked to the players about, we can't guess the future if we're going to work hard. We need to prepare like (the season is) going to play and if something happens where we have to play in spring or play later, we're going to be that further ahead." Colcord and offensive co - ordinator Scott Hamby will look to be multiple in their schemes with a no huddle offense. "We're going to try to spread the ball around," Martin said. "We always want to take what the defense gives us. We do a better job each and every year and spreading the field. Coach Hamby, I don't remem - ber the last time he even hud- dled. We'll remain no huddle and try to be somewhat hurry up. He does such a good job of finding our opponents' weakness and highlight some- thing we can do."
