Claborn, a 23- year veteran, spent last season as a volunteer coach at Siloam Springs while working for Turf Tank, a company that paints foot- ball fields with robots. "I just thought I'd stay in that," Claborn said. "I didn't anticipate get- ting back into teaching and coaching." Claborn also did some volunteer work through HUDL for Oklahoma's Pond Creek-Hunter, where he coached previously, and joined the team for its Oklahoma Class C state title run at the end of the season. "I was a Panther on both ends, sometimes a Pond Creek-Hunter Pan- ther and a Panther at Siloam," he said. "Really until June I thought I would be (volunteering) at Siloam." Those plans changed in June when the head football coach position at Oaks-Mission became available after C.D. Thompson resigned to take the superintendent's job at Cave Springs. Claborn — who's also coached at Oklahoma schools Pioneer, Enid and Kremlin and coached in four state title games — applied for the Oaks job and was hired as athletics director and head football coach in early July.
