By Graham Thomas Staff Writer n gthomas@nwadg.com Panthers hope to tighten up on defense 2019 Football Preview Wednesday, August 28, 2019 n 9C Herald-Leader/Westside Eagle Observer Bud Sullins/Special to the Herald-Leader The Siloam Springs Panthers open the season on Aug. 30 at home against Van Buren. See DEFENSE on Page 22C Siloam Springs' defense had its mo- ments last year, including a stifling 97- yard performance against Sheridan, in its first conference win. Overall, the Panthers gave up an av- erage of 364 yards per game, and with several returning starters back there's hope that defensive coordinator Cole Harriman's squad can improve on that in 2019. "It was Coach Harriman's first year as a defensive coordinator and he was very organized and highly efficient," head coach Brandon Craig said. "He loves the game, studies the game and always tries to put our kids in great positions. He spends a lot of time game-planning and studying and getting prepared." The Panthers will operate out of three- man front with a lot of flexibility on the front end and back end, depending on the offense they're facing.
