Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com /DesertMessengerNews Welcome back SNOWBIRDS! As the new year begins, we welcome our northern friends back to their favorite nesting spots in and around Quartzsite! You'll find this issue is jam-packed with tons of events, special deals and advertising for our winter visitors. We hope you enjoy your visit in our little piece of heaven. The Sonoran Desert surrounding Quartzsite is a delight to experience. Be sure to pack it in and pack it out, so others may enjoy the untamed beauty of the desert. As our little town turns into a large city by population, it's also good to be mindful of cooperating with each other. Traffic can be a bit challenging this time of year. The cold snap we've had should end and temperatures will warm up this week, just in time for the big shows. Speaking of cold, be sure to check out Paul Winer's comic strip on Page 46! That's what's so fun about Quartzsite! There are so many choices of events, entertainment, music jams, shows, swap meets, RV Dealers, good food, good friends and everything you can think of... you'll find it here! In the hustle and bustle of the busy winter season, some folks forget that we are a full time rural community. We have events year-round. We don't shut down our town when the visitors leave. Events change according to the seasons, but life goes on in Quartzsite year-round. Many businesses stay open full time. Many choose to close for the summer, but all of our businesses are important to our community. When I was putting this issue together, I was overwhelmed with all the goings-on around town. And of course, all the unique vendors with their great deals. Speaking of vendors, keep your eyes open for a group of volunteers who will be going out welcoming our vendors with goodie bags during "Peak Week". The volunteers recently spent days putting together the bags, which are filled with information and souvenirs for our vendors. The Town of Quartzsite's Vendor Board and Health & Development Board is supporting this fun new addition. The Vendor board also hosted a free breakfast for vendors on January 7th. Vendors were able to get January 16, 2013 clarification on the famous Quartsite rumor mill. So when you see a volunteer thank them for their service. Share a smile... it's easy! Smiles are contagious and go along way! I've spent many years promoting Quartzsite, as I fell in love with the uniqueness of this area. While vending in Oregon, I wore our cute "Quartzsite" T-shirts. What a conversation starter. Now-a-days everyone has heard of Quartzsite, but not for the same reasons. One of my favorite phrases is, "There's more to Quartzsite than politics!" Just drive around town these next few weeks, and you'll find more folks loving Quartsite than not. When summer hits, and the slowness of a rural community happens, the complainers could get active again... maybe it's the heat or boredom just sets in. For now, Quartzsite Rocks! And visitors and residents alike enjoy all that Quartsite offers. It's a wonderful community to be a part of; full time or part time. Snowbirds are the life of our winter season. With our visitors, our seasonal clubs become active. Check out the Gem and Mineral Club, Metal Detecting Club, ATV happenings and more. The BLM lands surrounding town are filling up and the energy around town is picking up. There are many RV Rallys planned and the famous Quartzfest Ham Gathering, too. And all our churches have events, also. There will be lots of "happy campers" this season, once again in Quartzsite. To all of our visitors, we welcome you and invite you to return to our community. We hope you enjoy our little piece of heaven! We are grateful for you all!
