By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Despite many obstacles and folks saying it would never happen, Saturday, January 5th, 2013 the Town of Quartzsite hosted a Grand Opening for the new Quartzsite Community Center. Funding was provided by HUD's Community Block Development Grant program, however the town went over budget by $100,000. During the grant proceedings, hundreds of citizens turned out at public meetings to express their strong support for a Community Center over infrastructure development. Groundbreaking took place last summer. The 60x60 Community Center is located just west of the football field in Town Park, on Chandler near Quail Trail. The nice warming kitchen, meeting room and main hall are available to rent for functions. In addition, Linda Whineburg, of Cenpatico Behavioral Health, presented a $26,000 grant It's SHOW TIME in Quartzsite, 2013! Quartzsite, AZ -January in Quartzsite is like no other place on earth! Deals and vendors displaying their treasures and delights are everywhere around town! All shows and swap meets have free admission and free parking available. The 47th Annual Quartzsite Improvement Association (QIA) Pow Wow Gem and Mineral Show will be held Wednesday through Sunday, January 23 - 27, 2013. Show hours are 9 am - 5 pm daily, located right in the middle of town! Over 500 vending spaces with 70 spaces inside and 40 under cover, vendors are selling 75% rock related materials. MAIN ST. EATERY 3 Tyson Wells Showgrounds host the Sell-A-Rama opening Friday, Jan. 18 thru Jan. 27th. The 10-day show boasts vendors on 25 acres! Stay around for the Arts & Craft Show is from Feb. 1-10. Desert Gardens International Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show is in full swing thru February with rocks, rocks and more rocks! The 30th Annual Sports, Vacation and RV Show, or as we fondly call it, "The Big Tent" opens Jan. 19th and runs through Sunday, Jan. 27th. This huge tent located on the south side of town on 20 acres, pro- $ 50 Early Bird Breakfast Mon - Fri 6am - 9am vides an estimated attendance of over 150,000. The 16th Annual Hobby, Craft and Gem Show will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 3 with the 13th Annual Quartzsite Rock and Roll Classic Car Show on Feb. 2nd & 3rd. The "largest gathering of RVs and RVers" is happening right now! Prospectors Panorama, Tyson Wells Centre, Quartzsite Marketplace, Rice Ranch, The Main Event, Main Street Traders, Quartzsite Showgrounds, Hi Ally, Vito's, Greasewood and many more swapmeets are in full swing.
