Sig and Vernie Sigurdson were also at the schoolhouse meeting and Sig took fire with the idea for a meeting place. We named ourselves the Quartzsite Improvement Association and by April 27, 1965 the "Q.I.A." was incorporated. The Q.I.A. holds wonderful memories for me and in a future story I'll share some of the things I remember about that wonderful organization, the things they did to improve Quartzsite, and the many people who helped to make it happen. I never did have a sign for my beauty shop, but Mary's "Over at Rosalie's Place" stuck and that's how my little shop was known until in 1988, after 51 years, when I decided to retire and not renew my license. Vaun Allen passed away in Quartzsite in 1976, but that didn't stop Mary from her commitment to do what she could to improve her adopted Town of Quartzsite.
