22 MARCH 2-8, 2016 ELECTION GUIDE 2016 ELECTION 2016: N.C. HOUSE Richard Button District 44, Republican "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." 10th Amend- ment, The Constitution of the United States. The federal government has been encroach- ing more frequently on that amendment by edicts and orders that undermine the gover- nance of the states. Cumberland County residents need a con- servative legislator who will work full-time for their interests, for the betterment of the great Old North State, and for our rights to govern according to our Constitution. I pledge to be that representative. I am Richard Button, candidate for North Carolina House, District 44. Serving as your representative will be supported by my experiences of life with its beginnings in a traditional family environment. We were taught by example and Biblical instruction that love for God, respect for all people, and hard work must be our core values. Then raising my own family with my wife of 48 years, I can appreciate the joys and struggles faced by almost every family in today's world. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings that in- cludes being a paperboy, working at a drug store delivering goods on my bicycle, working as a farm hand, owning a small business and being employed by a large manufacturing company. I pledge my time and energy to be your full-time representative. Whenever legislative session are convened, I will be there. I have no other obligations that would infringe on the additional committee responsibilities. When not engaged in legislative duties, I will make it a priority to stay connected to my constituents. I will make it a priority to visit businesses, schools and associations to stay abreast of the concerns of the people in Cumberland County. My priorities will be: • Continued job growth through policies that help existing businesses and encourage new ones • Fight to protect our state's rights • Support for our military and the families that serve • Enhancing education opportunities I am asking for your vote to represent you in our legislature of the great state of North Carolina. I am a Fayetteville native with deep family roots in our community. Those who knew me as a youth knew me as Jimmy when I attended the Haney School, Glendale Acres Elementary, Alexander Graham Junior High, Armstrong Junior High and Cape Fear Senior High School (Class of '79). After graduating from Campbell University (Class of '83), I was commissioned in the U.S. Army and served three tours of duty at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps and the U. S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. I chose to retire from the military in Fayetteville and to settle my family here. I became active in my sons' schools (both private and public), in community sports as a volunteer youth coach, and in my church. Fayetteville is our home. I am the owner and President of Northpoint Solutions Group LLC., a small con- sulting business working in the defense and services industries and am currently employed as a defense contractor on Fort Bragg. I have served the City of Fayetteville on the Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, as a City Council Member, and Mayor Pro Tem. I'm a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and combat veteran. I am a veteran, small businessman, family man, committed to bringing common sense conservative principles to state government, and I have proven experience. I am no stranger to serving my country and my neighbors, having done so for 33 years. I have been able to use my experience and extensive knowledge of federal, state and local interagency policy and procedures, strategic planning, military, and business development skills to benefit our city and the people I serve. I am com- mitted to using these skills to make North Carolina a great place to raise a family, to work and to own a business In Raleigh, I will continue to be a consistent fiscal conservative and provide a strong voice of reason representing the hardworking citizens and taxpayers of our community. I will focus on strengthening our economy, supporting our military, improving education and fighting for conservative values. My values and character are true and strong, and consistent with North Carolina's values. This is why I believe I am the right choice to represent you and District 44 in the North Carolina House. My platform is built on three things: STRENGTHENING THE ECONOMY – We need outside-the-box thinking that unleashes our private sector to create better quality and higher-paying jobs. We must make North Carolina more innovative and competitive in the global economy through business-friendly policies and a smaller, smarter state government. SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY – I will work to make North Carolina the most military-friendly state in the nation. We are a stronger state and city thanks to these patriots and heroes who live among us. We need to ensure infrastructure is in place to support our installations and military families, and to help our veterans transition to civilian life and stay in North Carolina. FIGHTING FOR CONSERVATIVE VALUES – Conservative values have helped to make our country great. In the legislature, I'll fight to stop policies from destroying our way of life in North Carolina, and I'll advocate for life, religious freedom, and our tradi- tional conservative values based on the U.S. and North Carolina Constitutions. Jim Arp District 44, Republican In primaries in North Carolina, you vote only in the primary of the party with which you are affiliated.
