includingtheplayoffs. Gabbert, who was 5-22 as a starter for the Jack- sonville Jaguars, threw for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his debut as the 49ers starter. He got the nod last week af- ter Tomsula benched the struggling Kaepernick and there's no rush to make a decision at quarterback since the 49ers have a bye this week. "I've known Blaine Gab- bert from the time he came to the 49ers until now," Tomsula said. "He's done a wonderfuljob.He'saprofes- sional. He works hard and takes coaching to heart. What I said was Blaine would be the quarterback for the Atlanta game going into the bye week and we'd go from there." Tomsula said he would get together with players and staff on Monday and Tuesday. "I imagine everybody will get together and talk about it," fullback Bruce Miller said. "I don't think one guy will make that de- cision." Miller, who carried the ball Sunday for the first time all season, said the team will prepare "the best we can for Seattle with whoever plays back there." Garrett Celek, who caught both of Gabbert's touchdown passes in the second quarter, said he has the same relationship with Gabbert as he does with Kaepernick. "Or any other quarter- back," Celek said. "We have a great set of quarterbacks and Blaine had a great game. To be honest, what- ever happens, happens. Ei- ther way it doesn't matter to me." Linebacker Michael Wil- hoite called Gabbert a good teammate and said he likes his competitiveness. "He's always been confi- dent in himself," Wilhoite said. "He feels like he can play here." NOTES: WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) and RB Carlos Hyde (foot) remain day-to-day after both were inactive against the Fal- cons. ... CB Kenneth Acker (concussion) was also inac- tive, though Tomsula said it was more precautionary and he expects Acker "to be back and rolling." 49ers FROMPAGE1 off a 70 sprint to the end zone, putting the Cardinals up 21-8 with two minutes left in the half. Studer said his pass de- fense switched its cover- age from man to man to zone at times in the sec- ond half to help slow down the Miners' passing game. It worked. The third quarter was a battle for field position with both teams struggling to get past midfield and turning it over on downs several times. A Cardinals fumble with 10:38 to play gave Yreka the ball on the Corning 28, but the Miners were una- ble to capitalize and Corn- ing took over on downs. Af- ter driving the field, Isaiah Jones hauled in a 25-yard pass from Hayden in the end zone for the Cardinals final score of the night with 5:53 to play. The Cardinals held the Miners in check on the next drive and ran out the clock for a 28-8 win. Haydon was 7 for 12 for 113 yards passing, a touch- down and no interceptions. He also picked up 13 yards rushing. He was 4 for 4 on point after attempts. Davila piled up 276 yards 22 carries and three touchdowns and caught a 17-yard pass. Isaiah Jones made just the one reception on the evening, but it went for a 25-yard touchdown. He also made an inter- ception. Defensively, Oscar Gar- cia led the Cardinals with 11 tackles and 2 sacks, fol- lowed by Noah Maeder with 9 tackles and Curtis McCoy and Davila with 7 each. Mathew Arriaga had 4 tackles and 3 sacks. Corning will travel to Cottonwood at 7 p.m. Fri- day to take on West Val- ley, 8-2 overall and 4-1 in league play. The teams met Oct. 9 in Cottonwood and the Eagles won 31-21. Cardinals FROM PAGE 1 corded a sack and Ran- berg and House each had a pick. McClellan recov- ered a fumble caused by Ranberg. Borges was 3 for 5 on point after attempts and hit a 32-yard field goal. The Warriors didn't face the Cardinals, who shut out No. 7 Greenville 46-0 Friday night, during the regular season. In a meet- ing last season, the Cardi- nals won 58-14. The Warriors finished the regular season 7-0 in league play, the first Mercy team to go unde- feated in league play in 38 years, coach Brian Medie- ros said. Football FROM PAGE 1 By Jerry McDonald BayAreaNewsGroup ALAMEDA Regrets? Jack Del Rio usually has too few to mention. But the Raiders head coach was willing to sec- ond-guess himself Mon- day at his weekly press conference, the day after a 38-35 loss to the Pitts- burgh Steelers at Heinz Field. The setup: Following a Steelers field goal and touchback, the Raiders got the ball at their own 20 with 29 seconds left in the half and all their timeouts. Del Rio then instructed offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to have one of the NFL's hottest young quarterbacks in Derek Carr kneel on the ball to take a 21-14 deficit into halftime. "As I sit here today, I kind of kick myself for not taking advantage of that," Del Rio said. "There was an opportunity to be more aggressive." In Del Rio's defense, Carr was only 8-for-17 for 86 yards at the time and hadn't really gotten hum- ming as he would in the second half (16 of 27, 215 yards). The Raiders also had possession of the ball to open the second half. "That's exactly what it was. We're going to get this ball to start the sec- ond half. Let's not do any- thing silly to end the half the wrong way," Del Rio said. "But looking back, I say, hey, we've got a good offense, we've got three time outs, let's take a shot at it." Although disappointed with the loss, Del Rio was pleased with the way the Raiders took their shot at a difficult road oppo- nent, as well as the fact that the Raiders appeared to come out of the slam- bang affair in good shape in terms of health. Center Rodney Hud- son, who gave way to Tony Bergstrom after 54 snaps with an ankle injury, may be ready to face Minne- sota Sunday. And Del Rio seemed to feel good about the chances of running back Latavius Murray be- ing available after being removed with concussion symptoms. Murray was already making progress within the NFL's concussion pro- tocol. "All signs are pretty positive there," Del Rio said. Del Rio also said that safety Nate Allen, out since an MCL strain early in the season opener against Cincinnati, is ex- pected to come off the in- jured reserve (designated for return) list. Safety TJ Carrie, who missed the Pittsburgh game with shoulder and hip issues, "should be available," Del Rio said.
