When you are in the hospital, take an active role in your care.
If you're in pain, let us know. Pain management works much better
if you don't wait until the pain is unbearable before asking for help.
Doctors call this keeping ahead of the pain curve.
Don't be afraid to speak up if you have questions or concerns.
And don't be embarrassed if you don't understand something your
doctor or nurse tells you. Keep asking until you understand.
Help us support healing by asking visitors to respect our quiet time
between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. We call this the HUSH [Help Us Support
Healing] program. Patients need rest to heal and we are working hard
to maintain a quiet environment at night.
Lastly, don't be reluctant to ask if there is anything we can do to
enhance your stay. Yes, our nurses are busy. But they are never too busy
for our patients. At Cape Fear Valley, we always have the time.
