FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL Larry Wright, District 7 UCW: In your opinion what is the number one issue facing the City of Fayetteville? I believe crime is the number one concern. We must deal with the root of the problem. Poor parenting, poor education, lack of jobs. Crime increases when people are not working. Quality education or skills are vital in reducing crime. If the city is not a safe place to live and raise a family future growth is limited. Building more jails will not solve our crime problem. We must deal with the root issues. UCW: What can realistically be done to decrease the crime rate in our community? We must start in the home with children. The parents have a very important role with raising their children. Partner with programs like Ceasing Fire, Great Oaks mentoring and others, offering help to those that want and need it. Building stronger relationships with police department and community. Creating neighborhood watch groups, citizen helping citizen. Educate citizens on safety in how not to become a victim of crime. UCW: The Fayetteville City Council has teamed with the Chamber of Commerce on Economic Development – how can more businesses be attracted to the city and what economic development initiatives would you endorse? Reduce crime! We relook at the UDO to make it more attractive to business coming to Fayetteville. We must encourage big industry that would bring jobs and create more opportunity for future growth for our city. UCW: With diminishing federal funding, how can Fayetteville continue to provide quality services and where / how can alternate funding be raised? We must run an efficient operation keeping oversight of the city's budget, trimming wasteful spending. We must look at all options. Do research to find ideas and what is working in other parts of the country. UCW: What is your vision for the city's Parks and Recreation? It would be nice to have more parks and recreation in our city, but we must take a common-sense approach, with solutions that's good and equitable for all. We must prioritize against the needs of the rest of the community. UCW: In your opinion, what qualifies you to make hard decisions for the people of Fayetteville?
