During the annual Big Sweep cleanup effort Oct. 5, nine volunteers covered Cross Creek from Cool Spring
Street to Festival Park, collecting 27 bags, totaling 945 pounds, plus approximately 100 pounds of a
homeless campsite underneath Ray Avenue. The local Big Sweep was organized by Fayetteville Beautiful.
The Fayetteville event is part of the annual N.C. Big Sweep.
Fort Bragg, Fayetteville to Partner for Inaugural
All American Marathon, Mike to Mike Half Marathon
Fort Bragg will partner with the City of Fayetteville to host the inaugural All American
Marathon and Mike to Mike Half Marathon May 4, 2014.
Race planners are hoping for 5,000 runners, for both the full and half marathons, and the
relay events, and are planning for a race cap of 10,000 runners. Event organizers are also
planning for a marathon-distance relay event for (five)-person teams.
The race will begin in downtown Fayetteville and proceed through city streets until reaching the gates of
the Home of the Airborne and Special Operations, past the iconic Iron Mike statue, where the half marathon
will culminate at the Main Post Parade Field. Full marathon and relay runners will complete 13.1 mile tour
of historic Fort Bragg, running under gorgeous pecan groves; past Pope Field, where paratroopers depart for
world-wide combat missions and through the heart of the famed 82nd Airborne Division's expansive, modern
campus.
"We are thrilled to join Fort Bragg in providing our communities the opportunity to showcase Fayetteville and
our military," said Fayetteville City Manager Ted Voorhees. "This is a world-class community – it deserves a
world class sporting event."
Registration and more information will be available later.
