Concert oncert C THE BUZZ In Their Own Words by STEVE TURLEY Recently I had the privilege of speaking with Dave Frey, lead singer from Christian band Sidewalk Prophets, and solo artist Phil Wickham. Here are some excerpts from z our conversations. Dave Frey Sidewalk Prophets is currently on tour with Matthew West and Jason Castro. Dave says that Jason is, "the kind of guy you hang out with and he's so laid back, and then you realize when he gets on stage, like, he has one of the most beautiful voices. And you're like, 'Oh yeah, I forgot, he can sing like none Dave Frey other!' It's awesome." "Keep Making Me" is the second single from their latest album Live Like That. I asked Dave what inspired him to write this one — "It's the most personal song that I've written since "You Love Me Anyway." I really feel like "Keep Making Me" is about those scary prayers. Prayers like, break me so that you can put me back together even stronger. Or show me where you want me to go; put your will above mine. Make me lonely so that you can be the center of my life. That's what 'Keep Making Me' is all about. Man, what an awesome God we serve. He doesn't give up on us. He makes us do things, even if we don't want to, and it ends up blessing us even more." Sidewalk Prophets has a new album that is out now, just in time for Christmas. Regarding the new CD, Merry Christmas To You, Dave shared, "We did a duet with Francesca Battistelli, 'White Christmas.' We did 'What Child is This.' And we kinda did it with just a banjo, and really kinda laid back. I really like what our bass player cam up with for that. 'Holly Jolly Christmas,' you gotta get that one in there. When we asked our fans what song should we put on our Christmas album, surprisingly to me 'Holly Jolly Christmas' is much beloved by many people. And we actually, over the last two years, released two original Christmas songs. Those are bonus stocking stuffers at the end of our album. We have the10 new ones and at the end there's the two bonuses which are, 'Hope Is Born This Night' and the one we released last year 'Because It's Christmas.'" Sidewalk Prophets will join Newsong, Audio Adrenaline, Jason Castro and Love & The Outcome on Newsong's Very Merry Christmas Tour. Phil Wickham Catching up with Phil starts with getting the latest news about his growing family. Phil and his wife Mallory are loving parents to 2-year-old Penelope and 3-month-old Mabel. "We are definitely in the thick of it, and we're loving it" says Phil. "Adding the second girl is definitely at least double the work. It's so sweet!" Phil Wickham Phil is known for his worship songs and leading worship at large churches and gatherings. His new album reflects some of that but offers a little more variety so far as song selection is concerned. Phil shared with me some of his thoughts on Ascension. "It's just a process of love and thought and …it's just blood, sweat and tears. We put all that we can into these records, and for this one, I don't think I've ever felt so excited. This might actually be my favorite record. I had a lot in my heart I wanted to say about not wanting to settle for the status quo. There's so much more to dig into the Lord and so much more to know of him. I look back at these songs and so many of them kind of relay the message of thirsting after God and hungering for more of him. It's my prayer that this record STEVE TURLEY, Station manager Christian would do that for people as they 107.3 COMMENTS? Editor@upancominlisten to this." gweekly.com.
