N 9th YEAR! www.DesertMessenger .com • "Quartzsite's FREE Community Paper" • 541-218-2560 Crowds line streets for Christmas Light Parade By Joanne Winer The 9th annual Christmas Electric Light Parade was held on Dec. 8, and the great weather brought out huge crowds lining the streets of the parade route to watch all the lighted entries go by. This year's parade was bigger than last years, and it was filled with all kinds of floats, lighted vehicles, and decorated ATVs. The judges booth was set up in front of the General Store again this year, and the judges for the parade this year were Richard Trusty, Suzan Fonda, Celia Knott, Billie Fowler and Linda Maxson. Master of Ceremonies for the parade was Paul Winer. The winners were presented their trophies at Town Hall after the parade ended there. Trophies were given to: Art Hastings for Best Individual ATV, Rainbow Acres ATV Group won for Best ATV Group, Jessie Koontz won for Best Classic/Antique Vehicle, and Best Non-Profit went to Roadrunner Gem, and Mineral Club. The Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the parade, would like to thank Town Hall for all their help, and especially Terry Frausto and Laura Bruno for putting out the cookies and hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy after the parade. They also want to thank the Quartz- site Police Dept.for their help with the street closures and traffic control. A special thanks to the General Store also for their tray of goodies for the judges, and for letting the judges table be set up in front of their business again this year. Of course, there would not be a parade if not for the people who created all the great floats, lighted vehicles and everyone who were part of the parade--this was a great parade thanks to everyone who participated, and it is hoped that even more will join in next year!! A big thanks also to everyone who came out and enjoyed all the Christmas spirit this parade brings--see you all next year!!! 2 4 10 14-15 18 19 23 27 30 30 35 38 40 42 45 46 46-47 Editorial Letters to Editor Around Town Restaurants Voices from the Past Adventures with Rocks Coach Louise In Memorium Council Updates Swap Meet MAP MUSIC JAMS Church Directory ROCK MAP Puzzle Page Astrology Paul Winer's Comic Classifieds DINNER SPECIALS • 4-7pm MONDAY Meatloaf $6 TUESDAY Tacos $6 THURSDAY Spaghetti $6 FRIDAY Fish & Chips $875 WEDNESDAY Sweet & Sour Chicken $6 SATURDAY Prime Rib $1195 WEDNESDAY BBQ Ribs $10 SUNDAY LUNCH Specials Monday-Friday $ 00 Hamburger Pie 6 $ OPEN YEAR-ROUND! >>>> 205 E.
