Page 30 Council meeting updates By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Quartzsite Town Council met Tues. Dec. 11th, 2012 at 9am. The condensed version of the meeting and actions they took are as follows: Town Attorney Ward clarified the town code's "no vote" (not a "nay") counts as an "aye" or yes vote. Minutes of Nov. 13th was revised to reflect the votes. Interim Town Manager Laura Bruno of Commerce presented a proposed agenda format, similar to what Gilbert, AZ uses..The new agenda uses timelines to keep the council on task. Another change is to use the Public Hearing format, and Administrative Items, and Communications from staff, council and citizens, which provides for any item within the town's ju- QIA Craft Fair 1st Sat. of every month! Daily Activities! BINGO risdiction but not on the agenda. Suggestion was for council to discuss at the next meeting. Public Works will now have coverage 5 days/week, rather than 4 days as in the past. There was a final walk thru of the Community Center Dec. 10th and a Grand Opening is planned for January 5th. Bruno announced staff is working on legal issues with Richard Oldham regarding the town's Emergency Airstrip. Previous administration had Public Works grade the town's right-of-way across the airstrip. Public Works will be repairing the airstrip so the airstrip will be usable for ultralights and small craft. Bruno thanked Mayor Foster about bringing an issue to her attention regarding the agenda not being posted Friday. Town has 24 hours to post the agenda and was able to do so. Roger Williams, President of Willpower, Inc. presented $1800 towards the purchase of tables and chairs for the Community Center Jorge Moreira, Joanna Castellanos from the Quartzsite Youth Coalition, presented a check for $200 for the tables and chairs, raised from Family Movie Nights, snack sales, and Turkey Dinner Raffle. New Business: Approved unanimously, the re-designation of STP (Service Transportation Projects) funds from Kuehn to Moon Mountain Ave. which coincides with Safe Routes to School Project with sidewalks, drainage, and hopes for a total reconstruction of the road between Main to Quail Trail. Approved unanimously employees to receive Holiday time off of either 2 half days or one full day, which would be at the employee's discretion. Guys and Gals.... Appraiser David Bolster will be conducting the appraisals Wednesday, January 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Parker Public Library, 1001 Navajo Avenue. Bolster has 45 years of buying and selling antiques and collectibles. He was born in Riverside, Calif. and has done appraising on the West Coast. He has owned antique shops and is a full time appraisal consultant. David does monthly appraisals at the Lake Havasu City Senior Center. His specialty is American glassware and Asian art.
