February 15, 2012 www.DesertMessenger.com Scholars' Academy January Student of the Month Jorge Moreira - 10th grade In an effort to increase positive student behavior and academic achievement, the faculty and admin- istration decided to start rewarding students for such achievements. Once a week, the teachers and principal meet to determine weekly "All Star" stu- dents. All Star students are those who do THEIR best academically, who have shown "scholarly" behavior in the classroom and around campus or who have made positive changes or progress. Those weekly All Stars are treat- ed to "Lunch with the Principal" one day the following week. At the end of the month, the teachers meet to determine which student out of the All Stars went above and beyond in all areas. This month was Jorge Moreira. Jorge is a Principal's Honor Roll recipient (3.5 GPA or higher), a member of National Honor Society, has perfect attendance, abides by The Scholars' Academy honor code, is respectful to school rules and his teachers and is friendly and polite to everyone.
