We see it in the news as reminders of ISIS flood our television screens. We see it as we witness nations on the brink of war. We see it in poverty-stricken nations, where parents have to choose which of their children to feed. Even here in Fayetteville, we see it in a homeless man's eyes as he digs through a dumpster. We see it as we drive past gentleman's club after gentleman's club, or when we hear a 21-gun salute off in the distance at a soldier's funeral. We don't often realize it's right under our nose. Maybe you live in it personally, maybe you think you don't. Darkness is all around us. But, there is hope. Multi-genre singer-songwriter and author Plumb emboldens us to fight against this darkness surrounding us with hope and light in her seventh studio album Exhale, set for release May 4. It brims with worshipful songs of gratitude and hope, and the realiza- tion that if you are breathing in the Lord's grace, not only is your life brought into his light, but as you breathe out, you share with others what you took in. We do not exist for us but to share the grace and love given to us all. We breathe it in, it changes us, and then we breathe it out, we share it. I have now breathed in deeply and it has changed me completely. It has healed my heart, restored my home and made me new. Because of that grace, there is always hope. It's oxygen. Breathe it in…and then EXHALE. — Plumb That's the theme for the entire album and the title-track, "Exhale." If that doesn't cul- tivate a new understanding of the power of Jesus's blood, the other songs on her album are sure to inspire. From this pop-y tune, to worship anthems "Resurrection" and "Champion," she covers an array of genres, even some techno in "My True Love," declar- ing "there is not another who can love like you love me oh my God." The album is a worship experience that is positioned to redefine the boundaries in which most Christian artists find themselves. Lyrically, Plumb has a knack for shaping her personal story into lyrics that make you feel like you're sharing a coffee with an old friend. Musically, her crisp vocals move from delicate to powerful at a moment's notice, all while seamlessly intertwining multiple genres within one single project. She lights the way to hope in middle of a dark world, only by way of the one true King, Jesus Christ. We should all take a note out of Plumb's proverbial playbook — while we live in darkness, breathe in deep the Lord's grace, and you can't help but exhale His hope and shine His light. The cool thing about light is you have to try to hide it for it not to be seen in the dark. Breathe Him in and He will "make your light shine like the noonday"… and then EXHALE.
