There is nothing like good
old-fashion hometown pride
and loving the community in
which you live. The people of
Eastover take great pride in
their town and their history, and
will celebrate both on Saturday,
May 2 during Heritage Day.
The event, which runs from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. takes place at the
Eastover Community Building.
What's a celebration without
a parade? Eastover doesn't disappoint, with the parade beginning at 9 a.m.,
followed by the festivities at 10 a.m. You don't have to be an Eastover resident
to take part in the fun, it is open to the public — even the city folk — who are
invited to join in the fun and learn about Eastover and its role in the greater
Fayetteville area and community.
"About 10 or 11 years ago we decided to celebrate our community and have
followed that tradition since then," said Eastover Mayor Charles McLaurin.
"We incorporated our town in 2007, and we have a day of celebration in the
community to bring people together."
The day begins with the parade, which starts at Armstrong Elementary School
and ends at the community building where the festivities will take place. The
day's events include everything needed for a successful celebration, including
food, music and more.
"We have the Shriners, local school groups, floats and groups in the
community that will be in the parade," said McLaurin. "At our festivities we
will have vendors set up and a stage for entertainment that will be performed
throughout the day."
McLaurin added that if past events are an indication, he anticipates about
1,200 people will attend.
Eastover may be a small town, but the festivities will offer big fun for visitors.
The atmosphere is friendly and laid back and there is plenty to do. Exhibits,
crafts, food vendors, music, tents, car displays, a snake show, fossils and much
more are on tap. The children of the community are not left out, as inflatable
bouncy houses and games for the children to enjoy are also scheduled.
Eastover is a town of approximately 4,000 people.
"We have a lot of people who have owned a lot of land out here for years and
years," said McLaurin. "We are continuing to build and grow along Dunn Road."
McLaurin added that the residents of Eastover enjoy their rural lifestyle, but
would love to have a good restaurant built in Eastover.
"This is a fun day for the children and the community," said McLaurin. "Every
year we look forward to celebrating Heritage Day."
