The Health Department encourages parents with children who will enter kindergarten this year to get their child's physical early. Medicaid, private insurance or self-pay are acceptable forms of payment. Fees for service are based on family size and income. For appointments, call 910-433-3600, extension 1. North Carolina law requires any child entering kindergarten to get a physical. In addition to physicals, the Child Health Clinic provides medical screening services for children from birth to 18 years of age. Services include primary care, physical examinations (includes developmental screening), dental varnishing, hearing screening, vision screening, laboratory screening, preventive education and nutritional counseling. For more information, call 910- 433-3600 or go to http://www.co.cumberland.nc.us Re-Entry Job and Resource Fair May 2 Health Department Offers Physicals There will be a job fair for ex-offenders Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational Center located at 6627 Old Bunce Rd., Fayetteville. The Re-Entry Job and Resource Fair is designed to help provide opportunities for people with criminal records re-enter the workforce. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to bring resumes and dress for success. To register for the job fair, call 910-323-1962 (option 4) or email hopeforoffenders2015@ gmail.com The Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center is one of the partners for the job fair and will provide an Internet Café during the event. Library staff will set up laptop computers with internet access and assist job applicants with online job and career resources, including help with submitting online applications. Other community partners include the City of Fayetteville, Fayetteville Regional Chamber of Commerce, Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville Area System of Transit, Operation Ceasefire and North Carolina Job Link. Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will be hosting a plant sale May 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Agriculture Center Front Lawn, 301 E. Mountain Dr. The event will go on, rain or shine. A large variety of plants will be available for purchase, including perennials, annuals, drought-tolerant plants, unique and hard-to- find plants, plants to attract birds, bees and butterflies; herbs, vines, ground cover and more. Cash or checks will be accepted. Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will be available to advise buyers on purchases and to answer gardening questions.
