December 7, 2011 Silent auction for troops! Operation Hero Comfort benefit for troops December 10 by Joanne Winer Mark your calendars for this week- end and come and be a part of some- thing really good going on in Quartz- site!! Operation Hero Comfort has been sending packages to the troops in harm's way in Iraq and Afghanistan and other places since 2006, and the past few years they have held a benefit to help with the postage to send the packages. The benefit includes a Silent Auc- tion--this is a huge success each year, with over a hundred items donated by local businesses and individuals that are bid on by anyone who wishes to acquire them--just put your name and bid on the bid sheets, and at the end of the event, whoever bids the high- est will get the item!! There will also be refreshments, cards to sign for the troops, and door prizes!! For the past two years, Thrivent for Lutherans, a part of the Lutheran Church that donates money to non- profits, has matched funds for this event--and they have offered to do it www.DesertMessenger.com again this year!! This means that what- ever is counted up at the end of the auction will be matched up to a certain amount!! What a great group of people who do this for our troop benefit!! Come on out and see what is avail- able for auction on Saturday, Decem- ber 10 from 1-4pm at the Town Hall in Quartzsite and help some troops know how much we support them by send- ing them these boxes!! If you have an item that you want to donate for the auction, please call Anita Carlson at 928-927-4292. If you would like to do- nate any items to be sent in the care packages that will be sent out twice a month, please bring it and put it in the box at the front of the lobby and it will be put into the next shipment out, as will all the signed cards so they will get them in time for Christmas!!
