6 OPINION www.DesertMessenger.com DESERT MESSENGER By Shanana "Rain" Golden-Bear Quartzsite s FREE Community Paper Founded by Walt Akin October 1, 2004 P P R P C. P.O. Box 3185 Quartzsite, AZ 85359 P 1st & 3rd Wednesday Sept. thru May with Special Summer Editions June, July & August EDITOR/PUBLISHER Shanana "Rain" Golden-Bear There are hundreds of paths up the mountain, all leading in the same direction, so it doesn't matter which path you take. The only one wasting time is the one who runs around and around the mountain, telling everyone that his or her path is wrong. ~ Hindu teaching A very warm welcome to all our winter visitors! With so much to see and do this month, the air is filled with excitement, and smiles are everywhere! Those of us who live in Quartzsite year-round now remember why there's four lanes on Main Street! Those empty roads during the summer makes our town look likes a ghost town. But our full time residents know otherwise. Local residents and visitors support the infrastructure during the busy winter season, working long hours, many without days off. Our volunteers are the best group of caring folks around! Just check out the QIA Pow Wow with their 300+ volunteers. Be sure to say thank you when visiting one of the greatest events in town and join in the fun volunteering for one of our many organizations. To enhance tourism, we need to reach out beyond our little community and promote the positive happenings in and around town. This past week, members of The GRAND Gathering board attended the FMCA Rally in Indio, Calif. to promote Quartzsite, The GRAND Gathering and QIA Pow Wow. Folks reported they were pleased to see Quartzsite being promoted after so many years of negative publicity. As the above saying teaches, there are always those who tell folks their path is wrong. One must admit it's a bit challenging for a small rural community to host such a tremendous number of visitors. However, each year, we welcome back our snowbird friends along with vendors sharing their wares, offering up great shopping experiences for everyone. As they say, "If you can't find it Quartzsite, you don't really need it!" Enjoy the shows, the vendors, music and activities, and feast your eyes on the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Please come back and see us! Those of us who live here year-round will "keep the light on!"
