January 15, 2014 33 www.DesertMessenger.com Rotary Doings Contributed By: Violet Kiss Wow, the hustle and bustle is nearly at full strength now. The Snowbirds, Rock Hounders, RV and ATV enthusiasts are coming in from all directions into Quartzsite. Most of the restaurants are filling and retail shops are doing good business. We are all so happy you've come to visit and stay with us for a while! Our big fundraiser of the year is coming up February 15th, Saturday at 7:30 PM for Dinner, 6 PM on for a Meet and Greet. This funds our Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program, High School Scholarships and other programs. You'll see our flyer all around town, an ad in this paper and you can reach us at the numbers below. This is our 2nd Annual Black and White Dinner at the Black Pearl in Parker near the Emerald Canyon Golf Course. It is $50 person with a choice of Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail or a Tropical Salmon with a Mango Salsa. The price includes all taxes and gratuities along with warm bread, salad, vegetables and delicious desserts. We will be giving each guest a 'gift bag' filled with goodies and one free raffle tickets. We will be all over town selling raffle tickets (or call below). One ticket is $5 or 5 tickets for $20. The raffle includes a 32" HDTV, a 7" Polaroid Android WiFi Tablet, some beautiful jewelry pieces and more. You do not have to be present to win. In addition, high school scholarships are around the corner and our High Schools are being contacted for applicants. We are also going to try to start up a Rotary Interact Club and sponsor it at Salome High. Interact Club is a service club for youth ages 14 to18 and is part of Rotary International, the world's first service club organization. Student members also have opportunities to develop leadership skills, understand the importance of responsibility and promote international awareness. Other benefits include learning the importance of serving others, showing respect and developing personal integrity, and continuing education. More will come on this over this year. If there are any Rotarians out there or others wanting to know about the Rotary, please feel free to come to any and all of our bimonthly dinner meetings during your stay. Our next meeting is on Thursday, January 16th, 5:30 PM at 400 N Moon Mountain Rd at Mountain Quail Café (near W. Quail Trail). Our meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays every month, same place, same time. Come and join us, we'd love to have you visit and be part of our group for as long as you're here. We welcome new members as well, smile. We have a lot of interesting activities and some new ideas on our service projects. We also would like to hear your new ideas and interests.
