The Woodpeckers are a Single-A Affiliate of the 2022 World Series Champion Houston Astros. Every player on the team has been drafted or signed by the Astros, including the 2023 first round pick, Brice Matthews. Currently 21 former Woodpecker players have made it to the Major Leagues, including the 2022 World Series MVP Jeremy Pena. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers play 66 home games at Segra Stadium each sum- mer from April through early September. Each game has a unique theme from Christmas in July or Margaritaville to Star Wars Night or Military Appreciation. Weekly promotions include fireworks, giveaways and kids-run-the-bases. The Woodpeckers also believe in giving back to the community. The Woodpeckers Community Leadership program gives to local nonprofit organi- zations and projects, contributing over $50,000 annually through partnerships with Segra, Blanton's Heating & Air, AEVEX, Blue Ridge Power and Walsingham Group. The newest project is the Woodpeckers Sports Fund, providing scholar- ships to student athletes in Cumberland County for registration fees, equipment and uniforms. Best Youth Program/Camp Cape Fear Regional Theatre's Summer Camp 1209 Hay Street 910-323-4234 or www.cfrt.org Cape Fear Regional Theatre's Summer Camp is popular with parents and kids alike. The Education Department — con- sisting of Marc de la Concha (Education Director), Jennifer Sell (Education Associate), Mary Kate Burke (Artistic Director) — is busy creating three differ- ent summer camps for three different age groups, shows and performances. CFRT commissions writers to create plays for 6- to 9-year-olds that offer every child an opportunity to play a role. Throughout the production younger campers are exposed to the fundamentals of stage performance, which includes speaking before an audience, acting, sing- ing and dancing. By participating in this experience, they can develop an appre- ciation for the theatrical arts and enhance their own abilities on stage. The selection of the production for the age bracket of 10 to 14 is based on the ability to accommodate a maximum of 45 to 50 camp-goers, while also being popular enough to generate excitement and interest among the children in this age range. The summer camp geared towards teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 offers an environment like a professional theater setting, giving campers a glimpse into the expectations and demands of such a world. During their 3-4 week rehearsal period, campers not only act on stage but also gain hands-on experience in the various roles required for a successful production. o utdoor s & r ecre a t i on O F F A Y E T T E V I L L E Saturday Hours • Main Off ice only Rainbow Pediatrics of Fayetteville 1327 Robeson Street Fayetteville, NC (910) 486-5437 Rainbow Pediatrics of Hope Mills 4469 S.
